geometry

Question Posted Friday February 24 2006, 9:39 pm

i have a problem..i'm usually a pretty good student & we juss started new classes & i have a 73 in geometry!!! its because i had an 100% and failed the first test. on the quiz, i failed it!! idk whats even going on. i know the stuff but sometimes i mess up dumb things & when i take the test/quiz i blank out because the questions are worded differently than the worksheets. idk what to even do. i think a tutor might be pointless because i get the info. any advice??

thanks!!

You could always tell your teacher because if he knows what your grade average is normally then he should notice a change in your grades when it comes to tests or quizzes. Then he should be able to do something about it and if he doesnt then you could ask him to help you throughout the test. Idk if you have this at your school but at our school if you need help talking test there should be some people that are there to help you with your tests so that you can understand them.

I would say to just practice the material over and over at home. Look at your old tests and quizes. You don't really need a tutor, probably just a good friend [maybe older] who is good at that and can help you. Relax! You'll be fine =)

Well, my mom was like that in High School. On tests she froze up so she would have to have someone read the tests to her and sometimes explain it in different words, and it helped her pass. Basically they read it to you, explain it & you answer and they write it down. =D Ask about that.

Hey, the best thing to do is talk to your teacher about it. Show that you get the material and that it's just testing that does you in. From what it sounds like, you probably have a mild case of test anxiety. It's normal to have anxiety in one area but not others; like you can do awesome on say an English test and then do really badly on a math test.
I had that problem, math tests just didn't agree with me. I talked with my teacher she had me try two things: 1) take one test in class and then take another at home and later that year had me start tests early, take a break for about 15 min and then go back to it and look over what I did and change anything I felt was wrong. Between the two methods, test scores went up. I'm not saying that your teacher will allow either of those, or will use either plan, but it might be worth asking if you could try something like that.
Also, if your teacher won't let you change anything, talk to your parents. Explain what's going on and ask them to talk to your teacher about it.
Good luck.

Study study study!! This is the only way to get better! Find a buddy in your class that has a good GPA in that class (80%-100%) and let them help you study. Ask your teacher for extra help during lunch, after school, etc. During class ask questions like "Will this be on the test?" and take enough notes and nights before the test itself, review them. I hope I helped =)
