Question Posted Saturday January 28 2006, 10:08 pm
at least once a month, I get migraine(sp?) headaches. I dont know what causes them, but I cant take any medication for them because I dont like swallowing pills. I have never done it in my life and whenever I try i feel as if I am choking and almost throw up. Are there any migraine medications I can take where I dont have to swallow a pill? If not, is there any way I can get myself to swallow a pill without vomiting? thanks ♥

The reason being that some meds are time released, meaning they dissolve slow and give you a small dose at a time. If you break up one of those pills you could accidentally overdose or get really sick. I don't mean to repeat but, some things can't be said often enough.
You don't mention if your med is a prescription or over the counter medication. If it is a prescription ask the pharmacist if they have a liquid version available. Many times when you reach a certain age, your doctor will think you are old enough for pills. However, there are many adults who have a problem swallowing some of the horse pills they come up with.

I went to a neurologist (head doctor) and I got prescribed medicine. I tried many different versions and they did have different kinds that are dissolvable (sp?); you just put them on the bottom of your tongue and it dissolves and they claim that it works faster.
Maybe check out a neurologist and check out the different types of dissolvable pills that they have.

DancinCutie08 answered Saturday January 28 2006, 11:14 pm: well what i would do is break the med in half. most of them have a line across them and you can cut them with a butter knife. that makes them soo much smaller and easy to swallow. or you can try childrens med for like headaches. even though it says only up to age 12 they work fine on me.
i used to get migranes like you and do you know what cures them? go to a chiropracter. i did it and they cracked my neck like once a week for a month and they went away and never came back [ DancinCutie08's advice column | Ask DancinCutie08 A Question ]
XSugarPieX77 answered Saturday January 28 2006, 10:59 pm: Ok, this is what you do, put a big mouthful of cold water in your mouth and then just put the pill in your mouth with the water and swallow. It should go down easily and you cant feel it. If that doesnt work then I suggest you take a wash cloth and put very warm water on it and place it on your forehead. If that doesnt work, then go with cold water, and run cold water on a washcloth and place that on your forehead. Good Luck!
ratpakgirl answered Saturday January 28 2006, 10:44 pm: Well, it depends on your age. You could probably find some chewable medicines somewhere, Don't know how much that would help though. Sorry if I didn't help much..

Razhie answered Saturday January 28 2006, 10:38 pm: I don't know much about migraine medication but I have some difficulty swallowing pills. The easiest way for me to do it is to take them with something thicker then water. Mostly milk now, but in the beginning when it was really bad, jello or pudding worked best because it just slid the pill right down my throat.
I just know someone here is going to tell you to grind up your pills into a powder. Please don't do that unless you doctor or pharmacist tells you it's okay, it's not generally a good idea.
