Hey... I'm 15... recently I shoplifted and was caught. I was told it wasn't concidered a "felony" because it wasn't over $400. It would go on my record as pety theft and my mom would be fined. ...Well when I'm 16 I want to get a job but... is it going to be difficult (or harder) with pety theft on my record? I was told that when I'm 18 I can 'seal my record'. For now... is the pety theft thing going to be looked at when I apply for a job? Has anybody ever been caught shoplifting? if you have, does it make it harder to find a job? or some jobs like wokring in a mall or department store or any store? Well thanks for your time in reading this.

LaidBack answered Wednesday April 5 2006, 5:03 am: Actually everyone who gave you advice must not realy have a job because when you put in an application somewhere they ask you if you have ever cimmited a FELONY not a crime a FELONY and since you didn't commit a FELONY you have nothing to worry about. I've worked at 3 different places a fast food place a restaurant and a bar and i did applications for every single one of them and it asks you if you've ever commited a FELONY not a crime...people these days :::sighs::: [ LaidBack's advice column | Ask LaidBack A Question ]

Yes shoplifting will be a little speed bump in your application process but since you're a juvenile offender, it won't tail you the rest of your life. It's going to be tough getting employed now especially in a mall because of your access to merchandise. [ MikeCFT's advice column | Ask MikeCFT A Question ]
DancinCutie08 answered Saturday January 28 2006, 11:20 pm: it is going to be harder. because on all aplications it asked if you were convicted of a crime and most dont ask what so they view them all the same. you will never be hired by anywhere that involves expensive things because of your record and you may never get hired anywhere that sells anything because they may thing you are going to steal from them. keep that im mind when you apply. you are going to have to prove to them you wont. i mean its hard enough for a 16 year old to get a job much less one with a record. ive applied at 3 places and still havent gotten a job
SilentTears answered Saturday January 28 2006, 11:00 pm: It may be harder but I'm not sure I've never experinced or looked into this. Either way I'm guessing you'll get a job it was a petty thing and truly I don't think most people will hold against you. [ SilentTears's advice column | Ask SilentTears A Question ]

And it says if yes this will not go toward the getting of a job. I dont know if its true.
