15/M (Freshman)
I don't really know if I want to finish school... I mean, I sort of lost all desire to finish school, I've had my heart broken this year & after that... it just seems like school isn't important anymore... I mean, I started failing... & I'm just not careing & just letting it keep going...
so, I think I want to do homeschooling next year, can anyone give me any advice on how to do homeschooling on the computer? & I'd like to graduate a year early, is that possible?
naimee answered Saturday January 28 2006, 8:32 pm: Home schooling on the computer is really cool. My friend like did that & I was so jealous of her, because she got a new computer & a web cam.. and of course like a tutor online & stuff.
These following states DO NOT allow online charter schools: Alabama; Kentucky; Maine; Montana; Nebraska; North Dakota; South Dakota; Vermont; Washington; West Virginia.
But the rest do.
I suggest you "google" Virtual Charter Schools ____(and your state)___ or Online Schooling. =] And I'm sure you'll be able to find something along those lines.
Although I thought it was really cool my friend did all of these awesome things & could stay home, she was really lonely all the time, and said she regretted ever doing it, then she tried to go back into public schooling and they wouldn't let her because homeschooling didn't give her enough credits to move into the next grade.
I think it's a cool idea though, and I'm not going to disagree with it, because if I had a choice -- I'd be virtual schooled. =] I don't think you'd be able to graduate a year earlier, UNLESS you did summer schooling as well. Which is up to you -- but you'd have to check with your counselor @ school or if you do start virtual schooling.. see if you could take extra courses throughout the day & maybe get all your classes over with earlier. But that could be a bit expensive. =] Good luck! [ naimee's advice column | Ask naimee A Question ]
DancinCutie08 answered Saturday January 28 2006, 7:09 pm: well if you are homeschooled i believe you can not graduate early and you have to look to your school about internet schooling because some school boards pay for all your cyber school but some do not. you would have to research it online because all states have different things and i dont know your state so i really cant help you. i can tell you its very expensive though. i believe most are about $4,000 a year plus you have to buy your own brand new comp and stuff. you are prob better off either switching to a private school or for about $4,000 a year you can switch to a dif public school in a dif community! But really, going to an actual high school is whats going to prepare you for life, whether you are going to college or not. Plus, if you are homeschooled, youre social life will dramatically change. You will lose a lot of friends. You will have more troubles meeting girls. Etc. And almost everyone gets their heart broken in high school. If it was a girl, just realize that you are young, and theres a lot more to look forward to as far as relationships. Dont let one thing ruin your highschool years for you. You have prom, clubs and sports, and all the other things that go along with highschool to look forward to.
It is possible to graduate early, as long as you get enough credits. Search around on google and ask your high school administration for suggestions on homeschool programs. [ Shortcake22's advice column | Ask Shortcake22 A Question ]

Perhaps you could look into going to a private or charter school nearby instead of your high school. I don't think you would be able to graduate a year early if you were home schooled or in cyberschool, and if you are failing freshman year. Freshman year can be a tough year to get through. At least it was for me. If you really hate your school look into going somewhere else. In my opinion you get less of an education if you are homeschooled. You should try to do what is best for your education. [ *Kate*'s advice column | Ask *Kate* A Question ]

Graduating a year early is definately possible. It takes a lot of extra work, but I think it's worth it. You might also want to talk to school counselors and your parents about getting your GED and starting college early (if you're college-bound).
Your best source of information will be your local homeschool group. They should have a number in the phone book where you can call and get information. Also try to Google homeschooling and see what information you can find. There are many programs to choose from. My favorite was Abeca video homeschool. But the choice is really individual, so you'll need to talk to your parents and possibly counselors at your current school to make sure that you understand all of your options.
