doesn't want a relationship

Question Posted Monday January 23 2006, 7:20 pm

17/m
well, theres this one chick. and shes hot. but thats besides the point. i like her and i THINK she likes me, but she doesn't want to date. she told me some crap about how shes bad with relationships and she wanted to be fwb. I was all like...um, idk. so now were just sort of like...more than friends but less than other stuff...that whole thing. and the other day she told me that she was going to be all protective of me and stuff. and to me, thats like...WHAT THE HELL!? cause its like, you dont want to date me, but you dont want me dating anyone else. so idk what to do, because I really want a relationship. i tried telling her this but she just told me that she's bad with relationships.

ok so shes treating it like a relationship. this would be a very big problem for someone who just wanted to be friends with benifits, but you wanted a relationship, so basically you got what you wanted. i know i know its not the same thing, but i suggest acting like it is a relationship for a while longer, maybe a week or two, and then after that talking to her about it. how what you have is a relationship so you might as well call it one.

There are several basic possibilities here. She could be genuinely afraid of relationships due to past experiences, in which case if you really like her, you just need to be VERY patient.

It's also possible that she likes you, but doesn't want to settle down & commit herself at this point in time.

She may like you, but genuinely isn't good at relationships & doesn't want to hurt you by being in one, so she figures this is the next best thing.

And of course, there's always the possibility that she just wants a FWB. The only way to know is to ask.

She seems to be messing you around to be honest. If i was you i would go with the flow, it sounds to me like you are in a relationship but its just hard for her to handle. She may want to be in a relationship but doesn't want the responsibility of it, just act natural around her and build upon your relationship for a few weeks before bringing up the subject... If she still doesn't want a relationship you need to tell her that it's important to you and that you want to find someone who cares about you enough to be in a relationship, if she then still doesn't want to be in a relationship then she obviously isn't the one for you.

k, well i honestly think that she likes you and she is truley scared of being in a relationship, but you can't play her games for too long. i went through this stuff too. its a hard deciesion. but you need to make it. keep up with her game. dont get played. let her know that she is confusing you. and tell her that if she doesnt want to date, but she wants to be protective, that she is confused obviously. she needs to come up with a choice too. i hope i helped. xoxo ~hotrod

well if you guys are friends with benefits and she's being protective and you like her and she might like you it sounds pretty much like a relationship to me, except without the title of "boyfriend" "girlfriend". have a long talk with her about what she wants and what you want and maybe you can come to an agreement or find out there is more to her than what she is telling you. don't try to push anything out of her though. if she seems like shes going to tell you a reason for something than listen instead of throwing out more questions. the more questinos you ask the less answers you are going to get because if you ask too many questions she'll think your just trying to get stuff out of her and she won't want to be talking to you just because you want to know stuff. she wants you to care.

hope i helped :)
