would getting a watch help?

Question Posted Tuesday January 17 2006, 12:00 am

Hey 16-m. I'm terrible at keeping to a schedule and managing my time. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could try to manage my time better? I usually have things to do after school, and by the time I get home I have just enough homework to keep me going late into the night. After I look back on the day, I spot out about half an hour at the least I could have saved if I did things differently. Any ideas? ...I used to have a tan line on my wrist from my watch, which might explain why I've been bad at this lately [would getting a new one help?] Will rate - thanks a lot.

I guess what you can do is get a pocket watch. That way you will be stylish and wont have to worrie about tan lines. I too am bad with time. What I always do is set my alarm so I know at that very moment I have to leave. So you can try that. Otherwise I have nothing. sorry!

well, a watch cant hurt.these things, you look back on, an see that you could have done differently, did you do them differently the next day? did it buy you some time? these things that keep you busy after school, are they things you could alternate days on?
if you can break down these things on paper an say ok, this is what i HAVE to do,monday, tuesday wedsday.....an so on. an then make a list of the things you do that you dont HAVE to do, but want to, like hangin out with friends, or if you have chores, things that can be changed like chores or seeing freinds should be situated on the days that you have the least amount of things you MUST do.also, if your a morning person, go to bed earlier and finish up the last part of your homework before school.and doing fridays homework friday night or saturday morning will buy you a free weekend. remember procrastinating kills time. good luck.

To keep yourself organized, I suggest you plan out your day - every day, and write it down. Write down EVERY LITTLE THING - and stick to it. Schedule in a half hour of extra time that you can spread throughout your day as needed if something unexpected comes up. I do suggest you get a watch, you'll be more aware of what time it is and what needs to be done when its right there on your wrist. Good luck!

Well, you could go with the whole "day planner" deal, so that you can actually see the day you have ahead of you, and spot any way to catch some extra time BEFORE the day is finished. It helps some people, but some people cannot handle a day planner.

Another suggestion would be to cut one thing out or so from your day afterschool, so that you have time to waste. Of course, quitting a sport wouldn't be a good thing, but maybe not trying out for a sports team again will free up some of your afterschool time.

If you're in situations where you're just hanging around somewhere waiting for something to start, then maybe getting a watch to see just how much time you have (you could possibly have enough time to do a problem or two of homework) could be a way to go.

Having a watch could help. Have you tried making a list of what you need to do and checking things off as you go? You're less likely to waste time if you see what all you have to do. Another idea is setting a timer when you're doing certain activities. Set aside a certain amount of time to do them and then move on when your time is up. If you have a lot of activities, you may have to decide which ones you can drop.
