Yeast infection?

Question Posted Friday January 13 2006, 4:09 pm

I think I have a yeast infection. Its itchy down there a lot. My discharge is a normal color though. Do I need to get this checked out by a doctor? And how do I tell my mom? I'm 13. Do I just buy something like Monistat? And what if I use medication and I don't have a yeast infection?

If this is the first time you've had those symptoms, you should see a doctor. You probably have a yeast infection and the doc can give you medicine to cure it. You might have something else, though, in which case the doc can find out.

Monostat works really well but it's kind of expensive -- and obviously it won't do any good if you DON'T have a yeast infection.

In either case, you definitely need to speak to your mom about this. Don't be too embarrassed -- one time my mom was not available and I had to tell my dad and THAT was embarrassing. :-)

You should tell your mother for all reason and the symptoms to a yeast infection are.Itching, burning, irritation, painful urination, odorless vaginal discharge(may be thick whitish-gray and cottage-cheese-like or maybe watery in consistency)

Telling mom is good, she's older and probably has more experience with these things, According to Family Doctor ([Link](Mouse over link to see full location))
you should see your doctor if this is the first one. Don't be embarrased, because they're really common :)
