Question Posted Monday January 2 2006, 9:01 pm

I play field hockey, which mostly requires running, but now I'm off-season, and I need to do track.

In order to try out, you have to do push ups, sits ups, pull ups....all that fun stuff.

My question is, how exactly can you improve the amount of push-ups you do? I can do a few, but I want to be able to do more.

hmm, tough one i know i can lift quite a few pounds, but i cant do too many push ups. it just doesnt roll right for some people. you could always try lifting with dumbells and try bench pressing a couple times a week

Well you have to do a lot or arm workouts.

thats a website with a few arm workouts.
Then do girl push ups when your knees are on the ground. Then when those get easy, you can start to do regular pushups but only do a few then again when those get easy start doing more. Eventually youll be able to do more.
Hope this helps.

your going to have to practice a lot. a reaally good way is to do them against the wall. it might sound easy, but if you do it the right way, its not. its also tiring, but it'll help you develop the muscles
Alicia && good luck!

Come on man, don't do the girl push-ups, do Diamond push-ups which are when ur hands are close enough to make a diamond shape. Work on your pullups because this will lead to total body strength since it involves almost every muscle in the body to perform CORRECTLY. Make sure your chest touches the floor when you do push-ups or it doesnt count.

like danika (charmed3fanatic) said, start off with 'girl' push-ups. you get in the position to do a normal push-up, but you know how your knees are normally off of the ground? bend them. here's a picture of someone in the position to do one: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) have any more questions, ask me or im me or ask your gym teacher♥
