Question Posted Thursday December 1 2005, 5:16 pm

I know you are not supposed to cut you horse's mane with scissors, so how do you cut it?

You can use scissors, but it is not recommended. We use puling combs and I'll try to exaplin how the best I can. You take a small piece of the hair and run the comb through to the end. Then you wrap the hair around the teeth of the comb and gently yank the hair out. Sorry, that was exaplined really poorly. I would have somebody physically show you how, that's how I learned!

I have a pony so I know :P. I would recomend a blade. (nothing to hurt). You can find those at petsmart.com . Or a mane-pulling comb. You should ask someone how to acually PULL the mane.

You're really not supposed to cut your horse's mane at all. The best thing for it is to pull it, but if it is a thin mane, then you back-comb it. You can use scissors when you backcomb a mane.

Ask me if you dont know what backcombing is

I hope I helped

Scissors will get dull pretty fast and you can't cut much at a time. They do work though. We used them all the time.

You might check a Farm and Home type store in your area though. I bet they make some scissors for just that purpose. :)
