When I was younger, I was a gymnast. I quit gymnastics and started karate, and doing other things. When I became an actual cheerleader, [I started cheering again in second grade], in about 8th grade I started tumbling again. But I'm scared to try anything. What do I do??

yourperfectdisaster answered Monday October 17 2005, 8:15 pm: Hey =) Well I've done gymnastics like ALL my life..it's really fun if you do stuff. Don't be afraid because you will just miss out on chances to try new things. & Usually you're coach will spot you if you have never done it before OR if you just plain don't feel comfortable doing it without a spotter. Just don't worry, they are trained coaches, they know what they're doing! Have fun & Enjoy it while you can =) [ yourperfectdisaster's advice column | Ask yourperfectdisaster A Question ]

If youre still scared you should try everything on a trampoline. It helps to get your form back to the way it was. Remember, if you want to try something new, jump as HARD as you can and keep your arms straight and use all the power you possibly have. good luck :) [ xxxxxx's advice column | Ask xxxxxx A Question ]
lunaladyoflight answered Monday October 17 2005, 10:59 am: Don't be afraid to try your acro skills. I started out a skater and then went into dance, I did try gymnastics I just wasn't motivated enough to do it. I'm now a professional singer/dancer. I try acrobatics even though I know I'm horrible at them. You, on the other hand, have a chance at being really good. Don't be afraid to try them, just take them slowly. If you're worried about falling out of an aerial or being injured, go to an acro class again. I know competitions take up a lot of time, but find a way to put yourself back into that training. Perhaps ask your cheer coach, they probably know a good teacher or studio where you could brush up on your skills. Just don't be afraid to try anything. I've been afraid loads of times, but I wouldn't be where I am now if I hadn't tried my best and fallen a few times. :)

I had this huge mental block on just a back-handspring, but then my coach said something I will never forget, and I live by it; "Dont think about what might happen, think about what you need to do." And now I have my full!
