Also, breath in through your mouth, and let all the air into your diaphragm without lifting your shoulders, keep shoulders relaxed, and open mouth wide, to sound out sounds. Also, breathing excercises help, pracrice everyday, as well as voice excercises. DO MI RE FA SO LA TI DO, then go an octave higher, and so on. Practice, practice, practice, that's all!Good Luck! If you've got the time and money, taking voice lessons can help you improve your breathing, range, etc.
If you don't, does your school have any less competitive choirs you can get into THIS year? That can also help you out.
One thing I will point out is that everyone has different ranges their voices can handle - how high or low they can sing. Everyone's not expected to sing the same notes. During an audition, you'll be placed in the group that best matches your voice. This is how harmonies happen - some people naturally sing high quite well, some sing high but not AS high, and some have lower voices.

despite_the_radio answered Thursday October 13 2005, 10:58 am: Before I took voice lessons, I had a 4 oct. vocal range. Now that I've been taking them for 4 years, I have a 7 oct. vocal range. I would strongly suggest you look into taking lessons. They help.
If you can't take them, it helps to sing as much as you can, call the time. Singing is just like anything else; the more you do it, the better you'll be. Good luck. [ despite_the_radio's advice column | Ask despite_the_radio A Question ]

I just wanted to add that juice can be soothing, but it's not necessarily good to drink before a performance, the sugar content can make you sticky and phlegmy. Remember also when hitting a high note to come down on the note, instead of sliding up to it. [ savagecabbage's advice column | Ask savagecabbage A Question ]
Lilcheerdud123 answered Wednesday October 12 2005, 11:36 pm: I'm in my school's advanced choir. It is really tough to hit those high notes. What really helps is drink a lot of water or JUICY JUICE! [really helps for me]. No milk because it clogs up your throught. Also practice hitting the high notes. Try going higher and higher until you can't possible go any higher so now the other ones seem easier <3. [ Lilcheerdud123's advice column | Ask Lilcheerdud123 A Question ]
rikatree2375 answered Wednesday October 12 2005, 10:36 pm: Well, my sister is a national singer so i think i can help here. To improve your range, how high to how low you can go, you want to start by singing basic scales and try to go a little higher each day. Don't stress your voice, just push it a little. Also, try to sing more frequently or get a voice teacher. They can assist you more professionally and help you with your pick of vocal music. But if you can't do that, try singing whenever you can and do the scales. Hope i helped ya and if you have any other musical questions, dont be shy!!! I'm also a violinist!! :)
iTS_ONLiA_MATTEROFTiME answered Wednesday October 12 2005, 10:33 pm: Well,
When I was in Choir.. I sang a lot to myself infront of my mirror.
Also, make sure that you sit up straight, take brakes often, sing from your stomach, be confident, and do warm-ups before you start singing.
It's crucial that you don't 'over-drive' your voice. If it starts to hurt from practicing, try drinking something warm.. to relax your muscles.
-Hopefully that helps you. If you need anymore advice, feel free to ask me anything. I'd be more than glad to help.
