What should you do when you have a sprained wrist? How do you get the swelling down & how long should you not move it & stuff? Any other advice that is helpful. . .
SouthernGirl323 answered Wednesday October 12 2005, 6:03 pm: i sprained my wrist over the summer 3 times...it stinks. get an ice bag and make sure u ice it alot. but not for long periods of time at once. ice it in 20 minute shifts. and also see if you can a wrist brace (they have them at target and wal-mart and drugstors) and if you can't get one, or you mom wont let you (i dunno...but my mom wouldnt get me one) you can use a rollerblading wrist guard, get the guard for the opposite hand (like if you sprained ur left wrist, get the right wrist guard) and take out the hard part that sticks out. then put it on your wrist and there should be a small support thing right there where the velcro is.
get better soon! :) [ SouthernGirl323's advice column | Ask SouthernGirl323 A Question ]

P.S i've broken my right arm 5 times and my left 3.. and the DR. Always tells me to get my arm elevated after my cast is off. And to put it in a splint or whatever.
AskConnor14 answered Wednesday October 12 2005, 12:58 am: well, use ice 20 mins on, 20 mins off and wear a brace (just one of those soft fore-arm splints) dont worry, they dont hurt or restrict movement hope i helped [ AskConnor14's advice column | Ask AskConnor14 A Question ]
karenR answered Wednesday October 12 2005, 12:10 am: First of all, if it is still pretty swollen tomorrow...go see your doctor. Some sprains can require more than the usual RICE protocol. If you have fallen on it you may have torn some ligaments and a doctor will have to immobilize it for a week or so.
For now do this.
R... Rest your wrist at least 48 hours. Don't use unless you have to.
I...Ice to reduce the swelling. As said by someone else, put a towel or something between your skin and the ice. Do this for 15-20 minutes at a time. By the way, a bag of frozen veggies will work too.
C....Compress. If you have an ace bandage, wrap it up. Not so tight that you cut off circulation and turn your fingers blue, just tight enough to keep it from moving.
E....Elevate. Hold it above the level of your heart as much as possible. This helps with the swelling.
ambercrombie97 answered Tuesday October 11 2005, 11:39 pm: First of all have you went to the ER or the doctor about it? You need to alternate between hot and cold packs and you really need to make sure you use an ace bandage on the area. [ ambercrombie97's advice column | Ask ambercrombie97 A Question ]
