Question Posted Friday September 30 2005, 5:38 pm

Okay I really need help with this. In 7th grade, I always felt so alive. Then when I was in 8th grade, I still did but my energy/ fun and being active, hyper, outgoing started to decrease but it was still there. Now I'm in 9th and I just don't feel like I used too. I want to go back to my old self but everytime I try I just feel out of place. I want to feel more confident like I used too. I just don't know what to do and it is hard to explain. But I want to know if anyone has been in this situation and how they changed or if anyone has any advice? Thanks!

Hi! I have been in the same situation as you. When I was in 7th grade life was great. I was confident, hyper, and always thought everybody thought I was hot and had a crush on me. Then when I got to 9th grade...my self esteem crashed, I got quiet and shy, and I thought everybody thought I was ugly and hated me.
Can you believe I went for a whole year with that mentality!?

Now I am in 10th grade. Although my self-esteem is low, It has gotten better. I've started looking myself in the mirror and listing off good qualities. I also have begun writing down my feelings whenever I am upset. I am still quiet and shy, but I talk more than I did last year, and I've been trying to make more friends. I've been putting forth effort. And now I've realized that I'm not ugly and people do like me!

For me, it was my self-esteem that killed who I used to be. That could be the case for you, but you also may just have grown up. My advice may not be the greatest because I have not exactly solved my problem. If it is your self-esteem, I suggest what I said above that helped me, or talking to your guidence counselor.

I'm rooting for you, and I'm sure within time everything will get better for you!! Good luck!!

Well, let me tell you soemthin about 7th and 8th grade. They are the WILD years! Everyones hormones are screwed up and everyones emotions are like rollercoasters. Once you get to 9th grade, you may wind down and become more serious about things as your hormones balance out. You might be stresses about schoolwork or boyfriends and what not but just hang out with your friends and you should have fun. :)

Well it sounds to me that your starting to go through a stage where people would LOVE to be the age of when they were younger.Bout we dont have no time machine and set you back in time.so you just have to deal with it and go through your life knowing that your excited to get older. But just know something that your just growing and getting older by each second and even being more mature!

Yep, I have gone through that except it lasted for a year. I went through depression in my 7th grade year also. Stupid things got me into it. Everytime I got mad, cried or whatever I found bad habits to do and that led me to depression. I just let myself be like that. I'd let myself get hurt and wouldn't listen to my friends. Anyways, you have to learn how to me more relaxed. You can't just be sad and not do anything about it. You HAVE to find the good in everything, and that's how you will change back to your old self. I don't know how exactly I changed but all I know is it took me a little time. I started to do things I did before, found the good in life and in everything else. I had a very low self-esteem and confidence but then I just said, I should be lucky that I have everything I have and things like that. You never forget how to have fun, you just don't allow yourself to for somereaon. Go out with your friends. Honestly, life isn't about being sad and not getting any happier, you have to make it the best you can. Do sports, write, do whatever you used to and just keep telling yourself that you can and will. Don't allow yourself get worse and more upset because that won't change anything. Good luck with everything!

Well, I was in that situation, no doubt. However, I'm not proud of what I did. I lived through 9th grade, and at the end, I started a big lying fest online... It lasted for about a year. I tried being a person who I wasn't, and it changed me to how I was. Then I eventually found www.teenhelp.org, which then suddenly drove me into a deep depression because I'm an empath. Then I got removed from staff there twice, and eventually got banned because I was "Too compicated of a case". That's when I found this site.
My advice is to not use lies to get you out of things, or use them to attempt to change you. It will hurt you in more ways than you immagine. And every lie you tell ironically becomes true.
