Fruit Smoothies and Chocolate

Question Posted Saturday September 24 2005, 7:03 am

Hi. I'm not on a diet, but whenever I talk to friends who follow a 'healthier diet' than myself, they always, always mention fruit smoothies as a great big help. And they mean it as in home made smoothies. They mention something about a blender fruits, milk and no sugar but I have nooo idea how to make them. Does anyone know how to? And are you supposed to add sugar?

And the evil question: does chocolate cause facial skin irritation?

Fruit smoothies are very good and when made right, provide an excellent source of energy for an on-the-go breakfast. This is the one I make, but you can adjust according to your favorite fruits:

1 cup Skim milk
1/2 cup fresh strawberries
1 sliced Banana
1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese
1 cup fat free, low sugar Strawberry-banana yogurt
2 tbsp heavy cream
Ice
Blend and enjoy

I have noticed that guys with hispanic heritage in them usually get acne from chocolate and junk food. I am not sure if the same is true for girls.

I have no idea about the smoothies, but I can categorically tell you that, no, chocolate does not cause facial skin irrition. Sure, the sugar and few hundred aditives probably aren't doing much good for your over-all health, but eating chocolate actually releases seratonin, a pleasure hormone which cannot be bad for the way you look.
Besides, why deny yourself something if you love it? Just do it in moderation.

ok well there was something in seventeen magazine saying smoothies arent as healthy as you think they are. i think you have to add sugar or it would taste weird but then it makes it super unhealthy. i would recomend seeing if you can find that article online because it tells you how to make a healthy smoothie

and its a mith about that chocolate

If you really want a great tasting smoothie, here's what I make:

Take

1 cup whole strawberries (without the stem/leaves)
1/2 cup sliced bananas
1/2 cup whatever other fruit you like
1 1/3 cup orange juice

Blend in blender. Enjoy. Makes about four good servings.

Milk is ok in smoothies, but orange juice is really quite good.

As for chocolate--no, chocolate does not cause facial skin irritation.

I made one of these in home-ec my freshman year, it tasted horrible. But, what you do is take a bunch of fruits and throw them in a blender. I suggest to put the sweeter fruits in, like apples and oranges. NO BANANAS! Bananas ruin the entire thing, and make it taste horrible.
Put only a tiny bit of milk in and some crushed ice. Blend together for a bit, and serve.

And the second could've gone in a second question, but no. It does not cause any irritation at all, and has been proved as such.

When making a smoothie you can take just about any fruit you like throw it in the blender with some milk and ice. There isn't really a right way to make them, just keep trying different things until you find one you like.

And no chocolate doesn't cause facial skin irritation unless you are allergic to it.

Don't put alot of milk in. I, personally don't like them, I think they taste bad. Dermatologists have proved that chocolate does not cause acne or any other facial irritation.
