Have you considered this: are you comfortable with your tool? Do you use liquid or pencil? And are you happie with what you use, brand and type and the whole shebang?? If not, then I suggest experimenting until you find one that is more cozy and suitable to your needs.

When it comes to liquid eye liner or pencil eye liner, it's just a personal preference as to which we use. Certain things suit certain people. However, if you ask... chances are that most people will tell you that pencil is a better choice for them. It's a great start for a beginner who is just getting used to it. If you mess up, pencil is A WHOLE LOT easier to clean up and re-do than liquid is. Also, if you plan on carrying it around in a purse or pocket.. you risk the chance that the liquid may ruin [though I don't suggest carrying eye liner in your pocket]. If you DO mess it up, just take a tissue and slowly run it along the rim of your eye lid.. it'll come right up.

Now, the desired effect of eye liner is to create the illusion of darkness just above the lashline to enhance the look of the lashes. To apply it, gently hold your eye lid down, and start at the inner part of the lid [closest to your nose]. Then just simply draw a thin line smoothly and evenly along the top and bottom lid, getting as close to the lashes as possible. If it looks like there is a space between the liner and your lashes, then I guess you just have to thicken the line a bit. Or, if you'd rather have a very thin line, I guess you just have to try again. One last thing, make shore you draw the line all the way to the outside corner.

If you're still experiencing difficulties, don't get discourage. It will probably take some practice -- it took me a while at first too. Now, I have it down incredibly well!!

And as for products, I think the two best brands of eye liner out there are "Meryl Norman" and "Beautique". "Meryl Norman", which can only be purchased at "The Meryl Norman Cosmetic Studios", is pricey [typically $8.50 - $15.00], but it REALLY IS good stuff. It goes on wonderfully, and stays on all day! On the other hand... I happen to think that "Beautique" is INCREDIBLE!! However, I've ONLY seen "Beautique" at "Sally's". Good news though, it's only .99 cents. TRUST ME.. I would NEVER EVER EVER buy crap make up!!! I get only the best, so please, please, please, please DON'T let this dollar price throw you off - you'd be cheating yourself out of the best product out there!! I'd *PREFER* "Beautique" out of ANY other brand of eye liner on the market!! I could easily go out and buy a $15.00 pencil, but I'd RATHER get "Beautique"! "Beautique" glides on smoothly and REALLY LASTS ALLLLL DAY!!! I CAN NOT promote this item enough!! And if you still have doubts... for only .99 cents.. it's worth a shot!! [:

I'm sorrie for the long reply. I get too into these make up questions, but if you'd like further assistance, don't hesitate to ask! Goodluck! :D

first, test the smoothness/thickness on your hand below your thumb. if it takes forever to make the line and you have to press hard, dull it down a bit. (i had a problem with this!) then close your eye, hold it then put it right above your lashes and make sure it looks even and not wayyy too thick! pg 112-116 in the september issue of seventeen have good instructions and diagrams if you wanna check it out. cosmos girl has different things to try on pg. 92. hope that helps! <3

Pull on the outer corner of your eye with your finger until your eye is about halfway closed. (I hope you know what I mean, it's hard to explain.) Then apply the eyeliner as close to your lash line as possible. You'll probably then have to smudge it a little. Don't get frustrated if you don't get it right the first couple of times, it takes some practice.

close your eye, and pull it like to make it longer. (like a line type of eye) then lightly, (because it kinda tickles) put it on, and then really try to put it as close to your eye lashes as possibal it makes your eyes look GREATT!

Stefiny answered Monday August 29 2005, 5:22 pm:
Well, it does take practice. What I do is close my eye about half way(or whatever is comfrotable for you) and use one hand to tug my eyelid taught from the outside corner. Then start from the outside and carefully draw a thin(or thick) like to the very inside. Try to stay as close as possible to your eyelashes, its even okay to draw on them. When you get towards the inside of your eyelid it gets tricky, you don't want to spend too much time doing the inside, just a quick once-over. If your eyes are set apart, try applying it thicker on the inside to pull them together. or if they are closer together apply it thicker on the outside to draw them out just a little. Make sure you put eyeliner on AFTER you put on eyeshaddow or whatever else. Hope this helps!
