Fat?

Question Posted Saturday August 27 2005, 8:17 pm

My brother weighs 170-180 pounds and is about 5' 10"-5' 11" One catch. He is about the skinniest guy I know. He has like a six pack, no lies. But everywhere I look he's overweight, like am-i-fat.com and whatever. He lifts like 120 pounds, no jokes, goes to the Health Club everyday, lifts on the Boflex... so is the scale simply not considering muscle weight, or does he need help?

Signed,
Concerned for my Brother

Online "fat calculators" are notorious for being off. They generally don't take into account a person's body frame.

It sounds to me like your brother is at a good weight. Muscle does weight more than fat; that may be where the "fat calculators" are getting thrown off.

no, your brother's fine, and it sounds like he's got a pretty hot body too, lol.
the scale is not very accurate when it comes to muscles. muscles weigh more than fat, and when you check on the scale, it wont know what's muscles and what's fat, so they count everything as fat. so like even if you've got a buffed out body and ripped abs, the BMI calculator will show that you have the same percentage of fat as a fatass couch potato, and that's completely wrong.
so like yea.. your brother's not overweight, he's perfect the way he is

well wow if your brother can lift 120 pounds im very impressed but he and you should be worring about weight right now because all of us lose so much weight when we hit our pubety. also scales are sometimes wrong so i rele wouldnt trust the scale and maybe if he goes into something at school like a sport like track, soccer, baseball, basketball somthing that keeps him moving and in shape maybe if you like those ideas also he can run all then time when he gets home or ride a bike or skateboard somthing that has to do with being very active! let him run a mile around or smthing it usually helps just have him get active and im sure he'll be just fine im very sure!:-)

you're brother is absolutely fine meaning not overweight...that is normal for guys..and especially if hes tall, he might even weight up to 200...although the websites your going to might be measuring his body fat...which may NOT be healthy but doesnt mean hes overweight. Oh & I just visited that website AMIFAT.com...it called me margina and set im overweight ..which i know im not lol
