Okay, I'm getting braces in a couple of months, and I was wondering how they would feel. Can anyone tell me what they're like, and what to expect?

1. You lie down in the orthodontic chair and they just brush your teeth.
2. they insert a rubber cheek stretcher thing (it's comfortable, trust me) and a little thing that keeps your toung from getting in the way (which is also comfortable)
3. They paint some sour lemonade-tasting stuff on your teeth
4. they rinse it off
5. they blow-dry your mouth
6. they start to glue brackets on (which you can't even feel)
7. they attatch a wire to the brackets closest to the back of the mouth
8. they lay the wire over the brackets
9. they put the rubber bands over the brackets to hold the wires on.

amsybethers914 answered Thursday August 25 2005, 12:35 pm: When you first get them on they dont hurt all that bad but the next day and the rest of that week you feel like you are about to die and you feel like you cant put your teeth together and its hard to eat things that you have to chew and stuff....but just take some tylenol and put orajel on your teeth and youll feel a little better...after about a week you get used to them and you cant hardly even tell that theyre on there...and when they take them off it feels soo weird because where your so used to having them on lol...but youll get used to that again too...It's all worth it in the end...just make sure you keep your teeth brushed so they'll stay white and pretty...good luck!!! rate plz [ amsybethers914's advice column | Ask amsybethers914 A Question ]

sbloemeke answered Wednesday August 24 2005, 5:20 pm: I got them off 2 years ago for the secong time, and pretty much, I did not notice any difference other than the fact that they did not bite into my front lip anymore.
It's a fairly annoying process to take them off... I hated it when they did me. Expect to have your mouth open for a long time, and being very frustrated.

EDIT: OH... You're getting them ON not Off. My bad.
Pretty much, the process is simple. They just put this cotton ball in your mouth and you just sit there for a while. They'll just be there when you are done.
But they hurt afterwards. They pull, and you can feel it. And bite into your lip. [ sbloemeke's advice column | Ask sbloemeke A Question ]
XKyleX answered Wednesday August 24 2005, 3:54 pm: they really arn't that bad. they hurt for about 4 days when you first get them on and you can only eat soft food. they are harder to keep clean and you have to brush more often. and be careful not to eat really soft bread becuase it'll get stuck in ur braces really easily. when you get them tightened it doesnt hurt nearly as much as when u first get them on.. and the pain only lasts about a day. plus its worth it, ive had my braces for about a year and a half and my teeth look soo much nicer already. hope i helped! HectorJr answered Wednesday August 24 2005, 3:33 pm: Braces - Can't wait to get them on. Can't wait to get them off. Hmmmmmmm. For the most part it doesn't hurt. They simply use a small brush to put cement on your teeth [not the street kind]; then put on the braces and use this cool blue light. It might feel tight at first, or even feel that your teeth are going to fall off if you push on them with your tounge, but that all goes away in 3-5 days. They are a hassle, but if you do take good care definatley worth it. Don't eat cornpops right out of the box - that cost me two visits. You'll have to brush a lot more than usual, but you'll get used to it. Flossing won't be as easy, but you'll get to it. Hope that helps and good luck. 1Cutiewitabooti answered Wednesday August 24 2005, 3:19 pm: Exspect to feel pain. When i got mine on they hammered 4 caps on to four of my teeth. They hammered each cap 4 times. I wanted to cry. But they do that at all orthodontists. It just feels weird and ruff. You'll be cutting your lips a lot for sure. So carry some chapstick around with you. Good luck, but time goes by fast with braces so you'll be okay. but dont smile with your braces showing in pictures. It's still okay to smile though juss not braces showing. thinkpink03 answered Wednesday August 24 2005, 2:35 pm: I already have braces and to me there not that bad. The first couple days, they might hurt because they are uncomfortable. It might hurt to chew and bite so try eating something soft or mushy (applesauce, yogurt, stuff like that). After you get used to them you dont even notice theyre on. Every month or so you have a check-up where they usually tighten your braces. That might hurt for a couple of days (for me not at all) but its just getting used to the adjustments again. Braces might stop you from doing things, but when they come off everything you went through, good or bad, theyre worth it because your teeth will be picture perfect!
