But that's not all there is to the history. The
"history" folder stores the names of the sites you've been to. There are two other places you have to worry about: cookies and temporary internet files. Cookies are stored on your compute by websites for saving settings, tracking your usage, or other things. A cookie always contains the name of the website that put it there. Temporary internet files are typically images and other data that Explorer stores when it visits the website. These files also contain references to the websites that they came from.
Here's how to take care of those things: Again, right click on internet explorer, and click properties. You'll see, in the middle of the properties window, a button that says "Delete Files...". This will delete all your temporary internet files. Next to it is the button that deletes cookies. You may or may not want to do this; as I said before, your settings on websites are stored here, and if erased, your settings will be erased also. Now, on the properties window, go to the tab that says "Privacy". Two thirds of the way down will be a button called "Advanced...". Click it. Here are the settings for how your computer stores cookies. Click the check box that says "Overried automatic cookie handling." Select "block" under the "Third Party cookies" heading. Third party cookies almost always spell trouble. you can also choose to block or accept "First-Party cookies." You shouldnt block these, though, because these cookies are usually helpful. I personally select "prompt" under this heading; this makes it so that every time a website tries to store cookies on your pc, internet explorer will ask if you want the site to. Most sites you go to, you won't need cookies for, so you can tell explorer to always block them from that site. This can be a hassle though, so you might just want to accept first party cookies. Finally, down the bottom of this window, there is a checkbox that says "Always allow session cookies." You need these for certain websites.

Or just delete the cookies, same thing except instead of delete history, you delete cookies
Or press ctrl and H at the same time, and then right click everything in each tab and press delete, it takes longer, but sometimes just deleting history doesn't work on every site. [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]
