Question Posted Monday June 27 2005, 4:52 pm

Im applying for a new job and it asks me my reason for leaving my last job. The reason I left was because I wanted to move onto something else, possibly higher paying and something better. How would I word that?

"I left my last job because I was looking to challenge myself further, and engage myself in a new area of work. There also were no current growth opportunites, therefore, I looked forward to meeting a new challenge and new opportunity of learning."

I gathered this from what the other two columnists stated, so they are owed the entire credit -- I just put it all together for you.

Good luck! :)

You could just say you want to challenge yourself, try something new, and develop your skill set. Experience something new to help you in life..etc

I hate that question on job applications! What I usually say is "Decided to pursue different and better opportunites". Sometimes I put the better in there, but sometimes I leave it out. It's entirely up to you. Hope that helps!

Try writing something like this:
"I felt like my previous job was not letting me reach my full potential and that I would like a job like this (the one you are applying for) much better. At my old job I felt like I was stuck in a rut and it was time to move on." Hope this helps!
