You <i>can</i> be in love with someone if you <i>get to know him</i>. But it's impossible to say you love him if you don't know him. Just because you know who the person <i>is</i>, it doesn't mean you know the <i>person</i>.
Think of it this way. What is love? Love is something you have for someone because you know them so well and they know you so well. You love them for how they act or what their personality is like. You don't just love them because of their looks or first impression. You love WHO they are. You love them because they make you a better person and you make them a better person. How can you say any of this is true, if you don't even know the person? You can't.
What I'm saying is...it's POSSIBLE for you to FALL in love with someone you don't even know, but you will never be IN love with someone you don't know too well.

sure you can love someone from a far..but i think you should take an action. I think you need to introduce yourself and start talking to him! i really think if you like this person that much, that they should definitely meet you! never be shy! live life like it's your last day! and who knows, maybe this "kid" will turn out to be your soul mate!

No not really. You may fall for what they look like or what they stand for but not the real person. Kinda like you would if you had a crush on an entertainer of some sort. You like the way they look or sound, you like what some interviewer makes them out to be...but in reality they could be something totally different. If you think you might like him, then try and get to know him a little and see for sure. :)

Hey, well in my opnion I personally do not think that you can love someone you hardly know because when you love a person, you love all of them and all their characteristics that you KNOW about them. I do however think that you are infatuated with this guy and liking him. Four years is a long time to like the same person and not have a real relationship with them, so there's got to be some kind of reason you've liked them for so long. I think you should try to get to know the guy better so you can really seeif you like everything you thought you did about him. This could later turn in to love maybe but the best way to find out would to be to get to know him! Don't be shy, you have nothing to lose! :)
