when i was younger, i was a bit chubby and i was really self conscious about it...it sucked being too big for dress up clothes. i was one of the first to wear a bra and get teased by the boys. i had a lower voice than most kids in my grade and i would feel akward singing with the class. well now, i finally took controll over my weight and im known for my singing ability as a strong alto. sounds great, but i still feel out of place. for me its a blessing to wear a size 5, when its fat-pants for someone else. i feel kind of not-as-good because im a young alto. am i making too much of this or can anyone relate? thanks in advanced and you deserve a 5 for readin this.

Being a young alto is nice......you shouldnt feel bad.How do you think that most musicians break out of their shells.l They start very very young. If you want to be a singer......go for it god is givng you the oppertunity to show everyone what you have now.....at an early age. Dont feel bad about it. Thereare lots of people your are enveing you for having a beautyful voice. I hope i have helped.....xoxo.....GOOD LUCK! Be sure to email me if you need anything.

selectopaque answered Thursday June 16 2005, 10:36 am: Would you really want to be one of those people who call a size 5 "fat-pants"? They are always the people who get mistaken for anorexic. Even if they aren't, who would want to look anorexic enough to get mistaken for it almost daily by both strangers and friends.
I've always had a tiny build, but my pant size now stays 5 or 7, depending on the brand and style. I would much rather have that then be able to fit into a size 00.
Even though society tells us that tiny is better, you must be able to admit to yourself that you look much better than anyone who's skinny enough to fit into a size 00. Even the name "size 00" makes me think "anorexic"
As for being an alto... Alto's are needed just as much as any Soprano. A strong alto singer along with a soprano is what makes the music good. It's not the soprano's that make it good, it's both.
Are you making too much of this? Of course you are. Thats what people do. Everyone has some gripes about themselves, no matter what they're doing in their life.
I hate my skin, my teeth, my complexion, my hair, etc... My friends tell me that it's all in my head, but no matter how much they tell me that... it's really just my opinion of myself that matters. Once you start feeling good about yourself, you'll feel much better.
AquamarineRose answered Wednesday June 15 2005, 10:15 pm: I'm a size 7. It's not what size your pants are, it's what you look like in them. I am 5 foot 8. I am fully aware that I will never be a size 00. It's just not practical. I'll never be built like that. And I'm okay with that. Don't set goals for yourself that aren't practical. Don't compare yourself to others. It won't help your self esteem. It'll make you feel like shit no matter how you look at it. God made us all differnt shapes and sizes, embrace it.
As for being an alto...I see nothing wrong with it. You have a deeper voice. Look at all the female singers of today. Not all of them have a high pitched voice. In a few years, you can join a rock band, and be the lead vocals. You'll kick ass.
You're a size 5 and you are an alto singer. In someone's mind, that is close to perfection.
xxBrOkEnxx answered Wednesday June 15 2005, 9:22 pm: well not many can sing alto, and you sound like you made a lot of improvement not just in your voice but in your confedence.you should be proud of what you have, not many can lose that amount of weight as you are describing it.you shouldnt care what people think as long as you are in yourself. Igotamonopoly answered Wednesday June 15 2005, 8:51 pm: I just turned 13 and I'm a low alto. But, I'm totally a size 00 and don't like it. I would like to be a size 3, I get called 'anorexic' sometimes and it sucks.
K2204 answered Wednesday June 15 2005, 8:34 pm: i just want to say CONGRATULATIONS for taking charge! :) you've done great, just stay healthy! you should be happy for getting down to a 5, and because those other people are over weight, you should be glad that you arnt like that anymore, and that can be a constant reminder that you need to stay inshape! :)
Courtney answered Wednesday June 15 2005, 8:34 pm: Yes, I can relate to what you are feeling. I was an alto this year too singing with some very known girls at our school and it felt sort of weird. People sometimes looked at me and their looks said," what are you doing here you don't belong here." I even questioned myself what the hell I was doing . But you have to ask yourself if you're happy with what you're doing. Because I was happy and that's why I didn't stop. I am self conscious too, but I didn't let that stop me either. You're just not used to it all. You will be . If this is your dream and ambition , then fulfill it. If it's what you enjoy doing, then you should do it . And have fun. There's always going to be people who don't support what you're doing, but screw them because if you're having fun in an ethical situation I see no problem for it. All you have to work on is your comfortability in the situation. Good luck and have a nice day. Don't forget, comfortability is everything. [ Courtney's advice column | Ask Courtney A Question ]

FoxyBeFun answered Wednesday June 15 2005, 8:17 pm: I totally understand what your saying. I think that mabye you should stop comparing yourself to other people, b/c a size 5 is great! and you can sing well, whos cares if its alto, you can probley sing better than most people you know. Your just as good as everyone else or better, the average person is way bigger than a size 5, the average person also sucks at singing. Everyone feels self-conscious about something, so dont worry, i think a bunch of people can relate to what your feeling.
