12 yr old cuzin
I have a 12 yr old cuzin who i'm really beginning to get worried about. The thing is, she's starting to get into this whole emo look by dressing up in all black and stuff and the worst part is that she even told me that she's started cutting herself. I really don't understand why she would do this because my aunt and uncle treat her with kindness and respect. The problem is that she's always so negative towards everyone and my aunt tells me that she doesn't have a single friend at school. I try to help her but she simply brushes me off and i don't know what to do before this case gets seriously worse. Please help!

Changes in attitude are a sign of depression. And the cutting is a dead giveaway.
Talk to your Aunt and Uncle. Your cousin may hate you for "telling on her"... but she'll thank you in the long run. Cutting is a VERY serious problem and she obviously has some very serious emotional problems. She needs more help than you can give her right now.
All you can do is love her enough to tell her parents that you think she may have a problem and needs help.

ok this is hard, because i have a friend who does the same thing. it might not change right away but if you do these stuff it might change gradually. First you should get to know them... i mean like talk what they want to talk about. ask them about what band do you listen to? they would probably say like good charolette or Greenday or stuff like that... it might be hard for them to open up to you first, but try talkin to them...
and dont question why they went gothic all of the sudden ,because its most likely that they wont know it either... i went goth one time... well i kinda still is...but now i am all mixed up "clique" i am part prep, goth, punk, and smarty, and artsy, and all that...except for losers and nerds...
and i didnt know why i went goth,,, i thought it looked cool except for piercing everywhere thing and stuff... and cutting thing... ive done it once...because on magazine this girl said that it made her let out her emotions like that instead of crying and my friend said he done it because its fun ...

you have to tell someone. get her help immediately. i know it's hard. your throat will feel dry and you'll feel dizzy but telling could save her life! they can put her in social groups and get her counciling. she needs your help right now more than ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are her parents aware of the cutting issue? You have to tell them so she can get some help. And, you have to talk to her parents into turning her back into a 12 year old girl instead of a sad gothic type of girl. Shes too young to start dressing any way like that. Her parents shouln't have bought her clothes like that. Thats a sad thing to see a 12 year old girl dressed up as some punk/gothic/sad girl. Thats a child going to waste. I think her starting to cut is some kind of attention she wants. You need to tell her parents about the cutting, and if you did, then its time to get her some school help or something.

You need to talk to your parents about this. You may not want to for obvious reasons, but habing your cousin hate you might be better than her seriously hurting herself. Nobody should have to go through something as tough as teenage years without any friends. It might be difficult, but just try to be there for her through it all. She'll really appreciate your concern later on.

first, you should talk to her. ask her about what's been going on in school and if she likes her parents, and if they've been nice to her. ask her why she's cutting and what she's so upset about. hang out with her and stuff and let her know that you're there for her and that you want to be her friend and that you're worried about her. and for the cutting, tell her parents about it! even if she gets mad at you, tell her that you told her parents because you were trying to help and you were really worried about her. even if she gets mad, the important thing is that she stops cutting and get's better.

well cutting is a way of punishing yourself for something hang out with her a lot even if she pushes you away then go right back fighting twice as hard dont let her push you away

there could be a ton of reasons why she's cutting herself, she could be having problems at school with other kids. like not having any friends and ppl might pick on her. Or she might not get along very well w/ her parents. talk to her about it, and ask her whats been going on at school, and try to hang out with her more to let her know that you're there for her. and for the cutting, you should prob. tell her parents about it b4 it gets worse. she might hate you for it at first, but after she gets help, she'll understand why you did what you did. good luck
