XxKaTiExLeIgHxX answered Thursday May 26 2005, 12:01 pm: I am a Freshman this year and I know exactly how you feel. I cried on the first day when my mother was dropping me off I was begging her to let me play sick for just one day but she wouldnt let me. But once I got in ther and started my first period it was fine, you see there are going to be some people you know in atleast 1 of your classes. So I hung out with the people I knew and after a while I started to " mingle " with the other teens there. Then I had alot of friends and I loved it. And now that my Freshman year is almost over I'm kinda sad to leave all my friends and some of my teachers. If your afraid about the work, Dont worry. I know most people tell you that you get TONs of homework and schoolwork but the truth is that 4 classes a day for 84 min. isnt that bad, the teachers mostly dont want to talk/teach for that long so they will mostly just give handouts and things like that. but it depened on what teacher you have. I get a little homework, but since I have the Aday Bday thing I have 4 classes on Aday and 4 Classes on Bday so I dont have one class 2 days in a row which makes it easier to do my homework. Also dont worry about the type/hardness of the homework. your not expected to know this stuff thats why they teach it to you. plus theres always a teacher there to help you out. they are usually leaner on the first week of school so you can find your classes and get into the swing of things....well I hope I helped! Dont worry its fun!..Good Luck! [ XxKaTiExLeIgHxX's advice column | Ask XxKaTiExLeIgHxX A Question ]
Peachgirly answered Saturday May 21 2005, 7:36 pm: I think that you should just relax and have fun during your freshman year but then you should still work hard and don't over stress. At first when I was going to be a freshman I thought that I was going to be miserable and that High school would suck. Because all of these people were like OMG! itz going to be so hard and my 8th grade teachers were like you have to work really hard, itz not gonna be fun and stuff like that. But, freshman year isn't that bad becuase I pretty much didn't work hard at all and i slacked off and i still got good grades. But i know that for sophmore and junior year the classes will be harder, you'll be busy and you have less time to do anything else. so my advice to you is don't worry too much and don't over stress. also hang out with your friends and you'll have fun meeting new people in your classes. ♥ Peachgirly [ Peachgirly's advice column | Ask Peachgirly A Question ]
fall_to_pieces answered Saturday May 21 2005, 11:33 am: high school is not all that bad. i am i currently a sophomore (junior really soon though) and yes, as you age, there is going to be more work, more requirements, and more expectations.
freshamn year was really fun and yet scray for me. i was really scared to go to a new school because i had just moved ino town...now that sucked. but when i went to school, i met two other people that had just moved there too. it was awesome.
if you haven't moved and are going with the kids you were going with in middle school, then you'll be fine. you'll have a lot more options for friends, that is for sure.
as for the work, just do it. i know that you're going to complian, i mean who doesn't, but there is no use because if you don't do the work...you'll fail the freshamn classes. and taking them again will suck. procrastination is not something you want to be proud of in high school. the person who gets everything done right away or early, is the one without the stressful life.
i hope that you have an awesome freshman year. make the most of it. make sure to join clubs, do sports, in some way or form--get involved with your school. colleges look at that. not that you are going to college ant time soon.
hope i helped. [ fall_to_pieces's advice column | Ask fall_to_pieces A Question ]
jokerzgrl answered Friday May 20 2005, 4:28 pm: Calm down. I'm a junior and I understand how you feel. You just have to keep up with your school work. You can't give up now, you've made it this far.I'm not going to lie to you and say that it gets easier, it does get hard, sometimes, but anywhere worth going doesn't have short cuts. When you graduate, it'll all be worth it. Trust me. Just keep your head up and follow through. It's inevietable to grow up. You just have to take it all in stride.

>_Ashlie!_< answered Friday May 20 2005, 2:29 pm: i will be a senior next year, and i'm kinda scared about that, but trust me when i tell you that there is nothing to worry about. high school has been a blast for me. don't be afraid of the work, just be dedicated and do your best! but here's some advice: 1)don't give into peer pressure! if your friends are doing something that you know you shouldn't do, and pressuring you to do it, step back and look at the situation and question who your true friends are... would your real friends do that to you?
2) get involved! high school is a time where not only should you do good in school, but get involved with extra curricular activities and clubs and have fun!!!
3) do your best at everything! when teacher's assign you work and everybody else gives 100%, give 110%. even if you don't get the best grade in the class, you'll know you tried your hardest and that's all that counts!
well good luck in high school and i know you will be fine!!! [ _Ashlie!_<>>_Ashlie!_<'s advice column | Ask >_Ashlie!_< A Question ]

TRust me, high school can most ceRtainly be tough at times, and it's that way foR *EVERYONE*. Because of that, kids theRe want it to be as smooth as possible foR THEMSELF, so they definitely won't botheR with haRRassing you and making it woRse foR someone else, when they'Re tRying to get thRough it themselves!! It's Really no big deal!! Give it a week oR so, and you'll know the way to youR classes NO pRoblem!! The haRdest paRt would be GETTING TO THEM in time!! Most high schools give you a five minute passing peRiod, sometimes less, sometimes moRe.. it vaRies fRom school to school.. but even then.. five minutes is neveR enough time.. so you gotta Run youR butt!! As foR making fRiends... I know this seems typical, but just be fRiendly. Speak out in class - this is a GREAT way to get noticed. Say hello to fellow classmates if you see them in the hallway. Join some clubs also.. that's a good way to meet people; then Right off the bat you know you have something in common with them. And always smile.. smiles definitely get noticed! And wheneveR you see someone sitting alone at lunch oR in the moRning befoRe school, just walk Right up to them and be like, "Hey! How's it goin'?", oR if you have them in a class just say.. "Hey! ARen't you in my [whateveR class]" I know it seems difficult, but you just have to Roll with the punches. Be bold and talkative. Middle School is Really NO big deal, tRust me.. you'll do just fine!! And in case you weRe wondeRing about PE: not *ALL* schools make you showeR; it vaRies. PeRsonally, the G.U.Y.S in my school HAD to showeR. If they neglected to showeR 3 times peR ONE semesteR... they failed the class automatically. HoweveR, the G.I.R.L.S *DID NOT* have to showeR. They could showeR if they wanted to, but they DID NOT have to!! I think it's because the giRls have that time of the month when it's veRy embaRRassing to showeR aRound otheRs, and boys don't.. if you get my dRift theRe. Also, I Read one a question exactly like this... that some schools have stalls. If they say it, it must be tRue... but I don't know wheRe people are getting this cuRtain/stall thing. My school DOES NOT have that. They should though!!! I'm soRRie I can't give you a definite answer, on if you have to showeR oR not. I'm just unawaRe of the way youR school opeRates. Just ask anyone who goes/went theRe. They'll tell you. Just make shoRe to make the most out of youR high school yeaRs... you'll find that they come and go VERY quickly!! Goodluck; hope I helped!! S_C answered Wednesday May 18 2005, 8:21 pm: In my own personal opinion (I'm a freshman... 3 full days and 2 half days left!!!!) I think my freshamn year was a LOT easier (in classes) then my 8th grade year. My biggest problem was finding my classes. But after the first two days I had no problem getting to classes on time. The biggest things I had to adjust to were my classes weren't all on the same hall, I didn't eat lunch with only my grade level, I didn't have classes with only my grade level, and that I didn't use a locker. (we were allowed to, but there's not enough for the whole school, so a LOT of people just carry their bookbags)
I myself LOVE high school. I mean sure I had to leave behind quite a few friends, especially my best friend Heather since we got put in two different high schools. But we still keep in touch, her birthday was Monday and I was still able to wish her a happy birthday and everything.
When I was about to start high school I asked a question on this site and got probably no help, everyone was saying it would be scary, and it would be difficult, but it's not.
High school isn't like the movies though. People don't get to hang out outside until the bell rings, you have to be in class when the bell rings, not you walk to class when the bell rings.
At our school, there's a bell that tells you to leave the class, there's a bell that means you have 2 more minutes, and then there's one more bell and if you're not in the classroom or walking through the door then you're considered late and you have to get a tardy.
The punishments are a lot more fair. Like last semester I was fed up with one of my classes, so I did a stupid thing and I skipped. I of course got caught because I stayed on campus. I got saturday school for it. I had to wake up early and go to the school and do work to make up for the time I didn't go to class. Though I didn't like it, it was fair.
The teachers are a lot easier to talk to. I mean if you have a problem, they really are there to talk anytime you need to. And for if you need to see a guidance councilor, all you do is fill out a form and they see you ASAP. If you need to see the nurse you get a note from your teacher and you can go, or if it's during lunch you can go straight to the nurses office. A lot of times you need a note to go places, but every once in a while you can get away without having one. The only reason they check for notes is because people tend to skip class a lot in high school.
You also get a lot more freedoms. If you're grades are high (a or B honor roll) then you get to leave for lunch 2 minutes early. You can exempt (not take) certain exams as long as they're not given by the state. You can get a few homework passes. You can get into certain sports for free.
Oh and in high school ALL grade levels can participate in sports. And there are trainers and managers (students) that help, and they get to go to away games too. The games are a lot more fun, and anyone can go, not just people that go to your school. Also anyone can go to the dances as long as someone from the school gets them tickets. You don't have to have certain grades to attend dances, it's sooo much fun. If you're on honor roll then you get small parties/receptions.
For dances you only pay to get in, you don't have to pay for food and drinks. In middle school we would pay to get in, pay fr the food, pay for the soda, and so on. Also they have real food, not just pizza and candy. And they don't just have soda, they have punch, and other things too.
High school isn't too hard as long as you try your best. There are a LOT more freedoms, and a LOT more activities. It's somewhat like middle school, but at the same time it's nothing like middle school.
Bob_the_Sword_Test_Dummy answered Wednesday May 18 2005, 7:24 pm: Freshmen have the easiest time in High School it's not until you get to 10th grade that it might start getting hetic depending on your classes/teachers. And since your going to be a freshmen..don't giggle, it's annoying especially if your a girl. Freshmen girls tend to giggle alot. But if your a guy, don't act like an ass yelling stupid stuff across the hall. Don't stop in the middle of the hall or else you have everyone else yelling "MOVE!" Don't try to be some bad ass. Make sure you don't make stupid random remarks, be mature around the upperclassmen but not like robot mature. Also be very very friendly.
