PLay... I am in a school production of Bye Bye Birdie. I think I am doing OK with the memorization of my lines, but sometimes I foget where to go and don't know how to dramatize certain parts. (I play Mrs. Peterson, a huge over-reactor) i am usually good at giving advice about this stuff, but I am stuck. Does anyone know how I could be mroe dramatic and confident in myself?

What helps me when I have to play a character like that, is to be OVER dramatic. Be as dramatic as you possibly can. (It may sound goofie but it works). As for where you need to go, I have one thing to say: Practice makes perfect. ]

ALl you need to do is go to your director (most likely your drama teacher) and ask him/her if you could stay after rehersals so he/she could help you with everything
Hope i helped,

Try practicing in a mirror, you are your own worst critic. When you feel confident about how you perform in front of your mirror, you will feel confident in front of everyone else.As for the dramatization, don't be afraid to go to your directer to get their input. Think about your reaction to what is happening around you on the stage, and start from there. Blocking is hard to get down perfect, but just practice hard, and you'll get there. I have had all these problems with my performances, and these are just a few things I've picked up. Hope this helps! ]
Oh, I played Mrs. Peterson! It's one of my favorite roles because you can never over-act- she's such a typical mother:-).
Just go through the script and pretend that it's really your life, and pretend that you are Albert and Mrs. Peterson is really your mother. REALLY dramatize the part where Mrs. Peterson mourns Lou, because it's a really funny part which needs to be noticed. Basically be loud all the time, and really dramatize the funny parts in the script, because that's what the audience really likes.
Break a leg! :-) ]
You have to remember that when you are on stage, you aren't Sarah, or Amy, or Beth. When you are on stage you are Mrs. Peterson. When we do plays at school we fill out background sheets on our characters, try to do that to see why Mrs. Peterson is over emotional. Once you can understand the character you will begin to understand why you are doing/ saying certain things.
If you have serious questions on blocking talk to your stage director. Usually they will spare some time to go over it with you. Another thing I find helpful is to go through my script and higlight.
For example my lines will be in yellow, when other charactes talk about me it is in blue, stage direction is in pink, and prefaces regarding my character are in green.
