Graduation speech!

Question Posted Sunday May 8 2005, 9:10 pm

I am writing a graduation speech that is entitled "Looking Back" and I am having trouble finding quotes. Ineed quotes about choir, school in general, and friends. Please don't tell me to google this, I really don't have time. If it's May 10, 2005 or after, please do not answer this, you will be rated an automatic one if you do. Also, this is a dialogue speech, so if that matters...Please cite your quotes so I can credit these people in my speech.

THank you so much!!

might i reccomend these shakespeare quotes? they're my favorite:
"Everyone ought to bear patiently the results of his own conduct"
"Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste of death but once"
"Boldness be my friend."
"Being born is like being kidnapped. And then sold into slavery"
"Beauty is all very well at first sight; but whoever looks at it when it has been in the house three days?"
"Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them."
"Art made tongue-tied by authority."
"As he was valiant, I honour him. But as he was ambitious, I slew him."
"If it be a sin to covet honor, I am the most offending soul"
"If you want to win anything - a race, your self, your life - you have to go a little berserk"
i don't remember which is from which play, but this one is from hamlet act one scene two, polonius says to his son traveling to wittenburg university
"this above all else, to thine own self be true"
interpret this however you like, but it will have deep meaning for your subject. ponder its true definition during the speech. and its relevance.
its my english teacher's favorite, so it will impress everyone.
good luck you valedictorian.
-gunner
p.s. hey, tell me how it goes. the hamlet quote is a must!

"Watashi ni asuwaaruno..." - Pronounced Wah-tah-shee-nee-ah-soo-wah-ah-roo-no It means I have tommorow, you could comment that looking back you realize that tommorow there is more for you. and for everyone. It is from Camui Gackt's song, Mizerable (spelled that way.) Good luck.

I'm not completely sure if this has anything to do with your question, but I like it and you might be able to take some stuff out of it. I truly have not a clue where I found it. It's more of a friendship quote, but I think if you were to read through it you might be able to pick out something important. If not, well then sorry.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In kindergarten your idea of a good friend was the person who let you have the red crayon when all that was left was the ugly black one.
In first grade your idea of a good friend was the person who went to the bathroom with you and held your hand as you walked through the scary halls.
In second grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you stand up to the class bully.
In third grade your idea of a good friend was the person who shared their lunch with you when you forgot yours on the bus.
In fourth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who was willing to switch square dancing partners in gym so you wouldn't have to be stuck do-si-do-ing with Nasty Nicky or Smelly Susan.
In fifth grade your idea of a friend was the person who saved a seat on the back of the bus for you.
In sixth grade your idea of a friend was the person who went up to Nick or Susan, your new crush, and asked them to dance with you, so that if they said no you wouldn't have to be embarrassed.
In seventh grade your idea of a friend was the person who let you copy the social studies homework from the night before that you had.
In eighth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pack up your stuffed animals and old baseball cards so that your room would be a "high schooler's" room, but didn't laugh at you when you finished and broke out into tears.
In ninth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who went to that "cool" party thrown by a senior so you wouldn't wind up being the only freshman there.
In tenth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who changed their schedule so you would have someone to sit with at lunch.
In eleventh grade your idea of a good friend was the person who gave you rides in their new car, convinced your parents that you shouldn't be grounded, consoled you when you broke up with Nick or Susan, and found you a date to the prom.
In twelfth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pick out a college, assured you that you would get into that college, helped you deal with your parents who were having a hard time adjusting to the idea of letting you go.
At graduation your idea of a good friend was the person who was crying on the inside but managed the biggest smile one could give as they congratulated you.
The summer after twelfth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you clean up the bottles from that party, helped you sneak out of the house when you just couldn't deal with your parents, assured you that now that you and Nick or you and Susan were back together, you could make it through anything, helped you pack up for college and just silently hugged you as you looked through blurry eyes at 18 years of memories you were leaving behind, and finally on those last days of childhood, went out of their way to come over and send you off with a hug, a lot of memories, reassurance that you would make it in college as well as you had these past 18 years, and most importantly sent you off to college knowing you were loved.
Now, your idea of a good friend is still the person who gives you the better of the two choices, holds your hand when you're scared, helps you fight off those who try to take advantage of you, thinks of you at times when you are not there, reminds you of what you have forgotten, helps you put the past behind you but understands when you need to hold on to it a little longer, stays with you so that you have confidence, goes out of their way to make time for you, helps you clear up your mistakes, helps you deal with pressure from others, smiles for you when they are sad, helps you become a better person, and most importantly loves you!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You could somehow mention how friends help you through everything and that though you're graduating you still have friends there to be by your side... and stuff like that. As I read through this again I don't think it has anything to do with your question, but you being older and smarter than me might be able to interpret something else from it.

firehotquotes.com has some really great quotes of all different kinds.

sorry, i have noo idea who wrote this, but if you searched the lyrics you could probably find out who.

"all good things must come to an end, the river of time keeps moving on. we must say goodbye my friend. tomorrow you'll look and i'll be gone. wherever you go. wherever you travel in this world, may all of your dreams come true. wherever you go wherever you travel in this world always carry a part of me with you"

also you could use the traditional "graduation song" lyrics by vitamin C

"as we go on,we remember all the times we've had together"

"Every rose has a thorn" - unknown

(( good times at high school with friends being the rose, having to leave them for college being the thorn ))

hope i helped you..let me know how everything works out!

The greatest quote website I've ever been to that has REAL quotes is:

[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

It has some great quotes about EVERYTHING! Plus, they're very mature, and great for a graduation speech.

Go under Topics, and then look under the letter of the Topic you need (ex.- If you need a Love quote, look under L)

Examples:

"The man who graduates today and stops learning tomorrow is uneducated the day after." -Newton D. Baker (this was under Learning, since I couldn't find a School topic)

"He who sings frightens away his ills." -Cervantes (Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra) (I found that under Singing)

"A friend is a second self." -Aristotle (that was under Friendship)

I hope I helped, and if you have any more questions, leave one in my inbox!

Well I think that you should go to
Firehotquotes.com
they usually have really good quotes about anything!! I'll check to see if there is anything good there for you! Hope I helped
~Linda
I checked and there is one that I like in particular!!!

In high school, it seems that everything is about which group you belong in. Those people in the groups all mirror each other. They have their differences, but even these are slight. We, we are different. We are the Outcasts. The things we have in common are few, yet our friendship is the strongest. I'm glad we found each other, because I never have to worry about being anything but myself in front of you, you just accept my faults and we move on.

Let me know what you think!!
