MintCure answered Sunday May 1 2005, 10:00 pm: Do you have any friends in the class? Call them up and have them quiz you. If it's at all fun for you, you'll study better. Also, read over EVERYTHING once or twice and write down key points, and then study only key points. If there are extra little things, footnotes, or vocabulary words, think about those too, because your teacher's likely to use them. [ MintCure's advice column | Ask MintCure A Question ]
elscorcho96 answered Sunday May 1 2005, 9:40 pm: I could give you some great study tips, but I have no pity for you. It's your fault that you didn't pay attention during the year - shouldn't you be studying right now instead of being online? [ elscorcho96's advice column | Ask elscorcho96 A Question ]
marien answered Sunday May 1 2005, 5:21 pm: if you cant stay concentrated then just put on some old classical music on really low it always helps me. and then also you might need to have a snack so that if you get hungery or thirsty then you will not have to leave ur room [ marien's advice column | Ask marien A Question ]
Cj answered Sunday May 1 2005, 5:11 pm: here are two tips.
1 sing the notes to yourself. it may sound geeky but it does work.
2 chew gum while you study. it has some kida effect on your external distraction thing.
3 use (S)sq3r
Skim- for all vocab and study it.
survey- understand they layout of events
Question- yourself about the topic
read- dont read hard:read smart
Recite- what you can remember
Review- to see what you dont know and study it.
4 i suggest you turn off the computer and actually try to study, instead of wasting time on the computer. [ Cj's advice column | Ask Cj A Question ]
LostAngel answered Sunday May 1 2005, 5:03 pm: Oh, most of my friends have to do that..World History and English Honors, and I heard if you pass or w/e it takes a year off from college or something. We are also in 9th grade. I say with the whats below me. Go threw Vocab words, or review dates and name..the normal stuff you would study for a test, call up a friend and quiz each other and help study.
Deanimal answered Sunday May 1 2005, 4:42 pm: :o!!! You don't like Human Geohraphy?!? I love that course!!
But anyway, first you need to study the vocabulary, and branch out from there.
Make a list of the vocab words, and their definitions. Then learn all the background info for each word, and learn about everything associated with it.
For instance, the term is "Steppes" You should know that they are in Southern Russia, that they are flat and grassy and that they are most of Russia's farmland.
More tips:
**Get a list of what you will need from your instructor. Just go in and say you're a little overwhelmed and you'd like a better idea of what to know. They should be happy to oblige.
EDIT: I just realized you only have one night. In that case, nevermind. You could try emailing or calling, but if not, you should be fine without such a list. Did the teacher hand out a review? If so, make sure to use it.
**Study for about 30 minutes at a time, with 5-10 minute breaks inbetween for snacks or whatever.
**Study with a classmate, it will keep you interested.
**Make up devices for things you need to memorize, like maps and the five pillars of Islam (which are Prayer, Pilgrimage, Charity, Faith, and Fasting at Ramadan ;) (Ex: King Philip Called Order For Green Soup is the taxonomy list: Kingdon, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species)
**Make flashcards for really boring stuff out of notecards.
