Someone told me that washing your hair every day can damage it. Then someone else told me that it wasn't true unless you blow dry it everyday (which I don't so)
So which person is right?
I've been washing my hair everyday for ages because there's nothing better to do, haha. I don't want to damage my hair from it though!
BARBiE_GiRL answered Sunday May 1 2005, 4:34 pm: Washing to too much can be damaging because it strips natural oils from your hair. Using hot water can also dry it out. Blow drying is also harmful. I do it everyday though. [ BARBiE_GiRL's advice column | Ask BARBiE_GiRL A Question ]

sshelbyy answered Wednesday April 27 2005, 11:02 pm: Its true that washing your hair everyday strips away the natural oils that keep your hair shiny and smooth. So I wouldnt suggest washing everyday. If you do on the otherside decide that you NEED to because you always get greasy hair, make sure to use a conditioner such as pantene prov and use alot! :D [ sshelbyy's advice column | Ask sshelbyy A Question ]
BlairDotCom answered Wednesday April 27 2005, 10:27 pm: Well, i used to wash my hair everyday, and my hair is super oily. I also heard that it damages it, but really, i just think it either makes it more oily, or dries it out.
Now i only wash it when it feels like i need to, or if its been a few days (ive noticed it takes longer for it to get more oils on it now). The oils in your hair are natural and when you use shampoo it washes them away. Throughout the day it replenishes the oils, plus some. So if you dont wash it everday it may be a little less oily, and you wont need to wash it as often.
Blowdrying, or adding big amouts of heat, like straighteners, is ALWAYS bad for your hair. Doing it everday is even worse. It dries out the natural oils on your hair and starts to burn the actual hair after the protective oils have been dried off (causing those icky split ends). I wouldnt worry about it if you dont do it everday, but either way its bad to an extent.
heykris10 answered Wednesday April 27 2005, 6:24 pm: Washing your cant damage your hair. it helps it grow and get some of the oils out!! Blow drying can though it can make it all dry and then you will get split ends

Karen answered Wednesday April 27 2005, 3:00 pm: The person who said that washing your hair every day can damage it is right. Every time you wash your hair, you wash away oils that keep your hair healthy and if you wash your hair every day, then you are losing more of those oils. It's better and healthier to wash your hair every other day. [ Karen's advice column | Ask Karen A Question ]
rainbowcherrie answered Wednesday April 27 2005, 1:26 pm: Both washing and blow drying your hair daily can be harmful in the long run. Some people have to do both every day so there are precautions you can take to make sure you cause as little damage as you can to your hair. It might be an idea to switch to using a mild shampoo, using harsh shampoos and conditioners daily can damage the hair. Use a heat protection or blow dry cream/spray before you blow dry it, this will help reduce frizziness and heat damage. [ rainbowcherrie's advice column | Ask rainbowcherrie A Question ]
LeGaL_TiNa_159 answered Wednesday April 27 2005, 12:44 pm: Washing your hair every day cannot damage it. Maybe washing your hair every other night isn't so bad. Also, Blow drying your hair sometimes makes your hair dry out, so use some sort of product to put in your hair before blow drying.
What I do is Wash my hair at night, towel dry and in the morning it is dry and I use my straightener to straighten it. [ LeGaL_TiNa_159's advice column | Ask LeGaL_TiNa_159 A Question ]
Mackenzie answered Wednesday April 27 2005, 11:13 am: I'm not shoRe how much damage is actually done, but I do know that washing it daily Rinses out the natuRal oils, so it's essentially not a good thing. Hope this helps? =D [ Mackenzie's advice column | Ask Mackenzie A Question ]
Ashley1 answered Wednesday April 27 2005, 10:57 am: If you have really oily hair wash it everyday. If you don't have a oily hair type then wash it every other day. Yes, Blow dryers can dry it out. Letting it dry naturally is best. [ Ashley1's advice column | Ask Ashley1 A Question ]
