Siren_Cytherea answered Saturday April 9 2005, 12:58 pm: Well, I didn't mean to, but I ended up with three 300 page books. Here's how I did it:
I started writing, and kept going. Honestly, don't try to push yourself to write, don't give yourself a time limit. It took me like 2 years to get one book done, but it took me under a year to get another one done.
As far as making characters based around your friends, just use some of your friends traits, and let the characters develop themselves.
Don't try to base your writing on someone else's. Develop your own style. You'll find it hard to write if you try to mimic someone's style. At least, I always did. But if you're insistant on writing like her, study her writing, pay attention to how she phrases things, if she uses a lot of irony, etc...
As far as keeping yourself going, write when you're bored. The first thing you do when you get bored should be to pick up your notebook and a pen or a pencil and start writing. I always stopped in the middle of words so I could like, start back on the same idea, and remember my train of thought.
I'm weird, though. That might not work for you. Just figure out something that does work, and stick with it.
Unfortunately, I'm not totally sure about UK publishers for young people, but you might want to pick up a copy of the "Writer's Handbook" and take a look at some agents.
It's easier to get it published if you have an agent. I'm aquaintances with an author, and that was the first thing he told me to do (get an agent). They shouldn't charge you anything, agents will take like 10% of the sales of your book, and they'll pitch it to publishers for you.
A lot of publishers, sorry to say, don't take manuscripts from people - just from agents.
So I'd do that first, once your manuscript is complete (or semi-complete) and start yourself on the road to getting it published.
I hope this helps!

mitsugi answered Saturday April 9 2005, 10:07 am: Hey! What's up? I'm also a writer and I'm still a teen.
ONe thing my brother always tells me is: "Writing and writing is good, but an unfinished book is like nothing at all. It is not worth anything."
He is actually right. I mean, who wants to read a book that's hanging?
SOme advice I can give is to divide the story into scenes, don't make it too planned and detailed *for you'll feel as if the story's been told and your interest will wane..*, don't make it too vague coz you won't know where you're going. you may even go off track already! Push yourself to write! Try to force yourself, even when you feel like you're at a loss. Let your characters lead you. Sometimes, that's what I do. New twists and turns come up because the character just tells me that he or she wants to do this and has to do it... So, there may be conflict and such, that will add to the plot.. ^___^
whatever works for you... Some of the things may actually not work for some authors while some do..
As for the character thing, well, first off, you can change their names. Second, you can base your characters on some of their personalities, but not 100%.. Just plant maybe 1 or two things that are really distinct about them. That way, you can write about them but it won't really be them, if you get my drift..
As for the other questions, I'm sorry, but I can't provide any satisfactory answers.. :(
