course problems

Question Posted Wednesday March 30 2005, 12:27 pm

Hi, I'm currently a freshman in my second semester in college and unfortunately I find myself struggling in my Chemistry II course. Right now my current grade is a 66% (a C- or lower grade at the end of the semester is failing). I work my butt off in that class but I find myself not being able to grasp the concepts so well where there are so many equations that come in different forms and it just doesn't make sense to me. My question is whether or not you think I should drop the class and retake it this summer or fall or do you think I should keep trying?

Also, what I'm studying for is Pre-Pharmacy and I was wondering if anyone knew how selective pharmacy schools are in selecting their scholars? How strict are their guidelines?

Thanks!

ask your professor about the stuff you don't get and if you still don't get the concepts, drop it.

Have you talked to your professor? Gone in for help? Is there a tutoring center at your school you could try going to? Do you have friends in the class you can study with?

When you've done every possible thing to try and improve your grade and understand the class, and nothing has worked, then yes, dropping the class and retaking it would be a good option.

If you decide to drop the class, make sure you talk to your advisor, or at least check to see how this will affect you. I know that at my school, you have to have at least 12 credits to maintain full-time status for financial aid. Also, some insurance companies won't ensure students under their parent's insurance if they're not full-time students.

So think about that before just dropping... one low grade shouldn't kill your chance at graduate schoool.

You'll have to take it sooner or later so I think i'd stick with it.Maybe find someone who's good at it to help you study and maybe get a better grasp of the subject. Your instructer might be able to help you find someone to help.

I don't know the guidelines for schools. Your best bet there will probably be to contact those that you're interested in and see if they can send you some pre enrollment guideline material.

Good luck with your chem class :}

I am indeed a chemist. I chem things. I play with drugs and solvents and all the good stuff. I got your direct question, but thought I should say something here...

If I can't help you, I know of another chemist on-line who might also be willing to help out. Just hunt me down and I'll see what I can do.
