Dysbrainia answered Monday February 21 2005, 2:46 am: To start: I think it would go under mental illnesses since a phobia is, after all, a mental illness.
There's really not a way to stop yourself from being afraid of something, should it really be a phobia, probably acrophobia with a little aeroacrophobia mixed in. You could try this website: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
But if you really want to cut the cost, go out and buy a five dollar bottle of sleeping pills, that way you will be out for the whole plane ride, and you wont mind!
Oh, and if you snore then you should get some snoring medicine too; being courteous to the person sitting next to you will help if you accidentally wake up mid-flight.
To finish: if you don't want hypnotherapy or medication, then just try to sleep, or think of the fact that you're going to Hawaii!! Let's hear if for islands, eh? (Not tsunamis, though.) [ Dysbrainia's advice column | Ask Dysbrainia A Question ]

K3587 answered Sunday February 20 2005, 11:51 pm: A phobia, by definition: "A persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous."
In other words, you can't really be RID of it...it's a psychological thing. The best thing you can do is meditate and take your mind off it. According to definition, you cannot convince yourself there is no danger, even when you know there isn't. Just try to focus on something else. [ K3587's advice column | Ask K3587 A Question ]
xoosummerbaby answered Sunday February 20 2005, 11:19 pm: There is nothing to be scared of. You are more safe in a plane, than in a car. The chances of something happening is slim. While you are on the plane, keep yourself occupied so you don`t think about it. [ xoosummerbaby's advice column | Ask xoosummerbaby A Question ]
babeoriental answered Sunday February 20 2005, 10:46 pm: i would pick a seat by the aisle way so you don't have the view of the outside through the window and bring tons of c.d.'s keep yourself occupied at all times like maybe read or something. and make sure you tell the lady that is helping you just so that if you need anything she'll be there. Karen answered Sunday February 20 2005, 10:16 pm: You need to tell yourself that nothing is going to happen and that you shouldn't be scared. You really can't get rid of this phobia, you can only face it. When you are on the plane, try thinking about Hawaii and how you are going to spend your time there. Just think about anything else that won't get you scared.
