MCalways answered Monday March 28 2005, 12:12 am: The rest umbilical cord should start falling off around the 3rd or 4th week it depends. For now, just give the babe sponge baths, until the rest of it is completely off. And make sure you you dont let it get infected. Doctors these days say not to put alcohol on it...but my mom told me to do it anyways, cuz she did it with me and i turned out ok (lol)
Maybe a little more info then you wanted but o well lmao

I'd wait at least a few days after the cord falls off before giving them a normal bath. It's not like a baby gets dirty or smelly. (other than in their diapers, or dribbled down their chin, but both of those should be wiped up right away). [ dreamingkat's advice column | Ask dreamingkat A Question ]
FrEe2bMe answered Tuesday January 11 2005, 7:29 pm: Hey. You can go around the baby's actual chord as soon as whenever. Like with alcohol or some drying stuff you can get from the doctor. Whenever the umbilical chors falls off is usually when it is healed. It may look a little red, but that's okay. For each different bsaby the amount of time it takes for the chord to fall off varies. The dryer you keep the area, the soon the chord will fall off. Then you can bath them all over. Have fun! :) [ FrEe2bMe's advice column | Ask FrEe2bMe A Question ]
