now im not blowin my own trumpet or anything, but im a pretty good singer. recently i entered this singing competition, but im getting really neervous about the first heat. i hardly ever sing in front of people (except at my singing lessons) and im getting really nervous - its on the 24th of jan and i dont even know what song im going to sing! can anybody help with calming down about this, coz im really scared im going to do REALLY badly on the day!
IcyDreamzzoX answered Friday February 18 2005, 12:54 pm: Well i used to be nervous in front of crowds, but I was in a lot of plays and everything when I was little, this is REALLY hard, but pretend you're the only one singing and no one else is out there, and if you're scared to make mistakes, its no big deal, if you make one, don't make it obvious and just keep going. Have the time of your life. And try to sing in front of your neighbors or something or throw a mini concert for your neighborhood, thats what we do sometimes. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to make it through!
Hunnibunni23 answered Saturday January 22 2005, 3:11 pm: I think you should do a "slower song" to show off your voice! Like you could do Angels by jessica Simspon or you could do something like Breakaway or Moment Like this by Kelly Clarkson or you could do this song from A walk to remember Mandy moore sings it in the play i dont remember what it is called but ya. I hope I helped and GOOD LUCK! ♥Andie [ Hunnibunni23's advice column | Ask Hunnibunni23 A Question ]
sh92 answered Wednesday January 19 2005, 3:20 pm: Let me help! I'm in a band and I will give you some advice. To decide what song your going to sing depends on your favorite genre of music {pop,rock,gospel,alternative....etc}. After figuring that out just calm down, and everything should be fine. Take a long hot bubble bath before the show, to relax your nerves.{ that's what I do}. Don't stress out, you'll be fine. [ sh92's advice column | Ask sh92 A Question ]

*Kate* answered Tuesday January 11 2005, 12:54 pm: Don't worry. When you go up to sing if you have to face the audience(If there is one) just look right above their heads. It will look like you are making eye contact with the audience. If this is your first competition don't worry about it, because it will be a learning expirence for you. On the day of it just make sure you warm up and just relax.

houdini07 answered Monday January 10 2005, 9:20 pm: i'm a fellow singer as well. all i cansuggest is that u avoid anything that causes allergies, because that can cause your throat to close up, and u wont be able to sing. lay off the cafine, it hurts your vocal cords. also, drink hot tea w/ honey the night before, and morning of. it will help clear out your throat and help you sing. make sure you warm up really well before you go sing, and you should be perfestly fine. good luck, and have fun. please rate me! BurnetteBaby13579 answered Monday January 10 2005, 4:35 pm: If you can sing infront of the class, you can sing infront of an audience!! To be honest, once you get up there and sing, it's not as bad as you thought it was going to be. Take a deep breath, and sing your heart out. Don't look people in the eye, look over the tops of their heads. Just relax, because you'll be fine. Make sure you practice and practice so you don't make mistakes during the performance.
Also, sing a song that you like. Pick a song that you think the audience would like. If you want a touching song, do something like Raise Me Up By: Josh Groban or Concrete angel. Good luck, and remember, R-E-L-A-X!!!!

Shortie8959 answered Monday January 10 2005, 4:14 pm: When you're up there singing, you just have to pretend like no one there. Or pretend like it's your family or your singing instructor. Also, it would to have some friends there for support. If you see them in the audience or whatever, you'll smile and feel less nervous. Good luck!
Hope I helped!
