Livestrong Bracelets

Question Posted Saturday December 18 2004, 7:59 pm

You know those Livestrong Bracelets that everyone is wearing now-a-days? Well according to my Spanish teacher, they're also a symbol for hospitals to not ressusitate (sp.) you if you get in some sort of accident and are put in the hospital. Is this true??? Because if it is, that's awful, and I'm not wearing mine anymore.

That is so NOT TRUE. The livestrong bracelts were made for the Lance Armstrong Foundation because he has cancer and all profits from the bracelts go to his treatment. Hope i helped :) any questions pop one in the inbox. xoJacxo

I dont believe that is true. Thats a symbol for cancer and for people who are sick to live strong. Besides a hospital cant ressusitate because your wearing one that would be completely ignorant and unlawful

In a way it is. It isn't the livestrong bracelet. It is a plain yellow bracelet that is like it but it does not say livestrong or anything on it. So it is safe to wear it because it only means that it is to help find a cure for all cancers.

Politics_Junkie answered Saturday December 18 2004, 9:26 pm:
This rumor started when a large hospital chain (BayCare Healthy Systems) announced that it would be covering up the popular bracelets to avoid confusion with their yellow DNR bracelets. Not all hospitals use yellow to mean "do not resuscitate" so at most hospitals, it won't be a concern at all. Even at the hospitals in question, the bracelet will simply be covered. There are no actual incidents of someone not being resuscitated because they were wearing a LIVEstrong bracelet, the hospital decided to cover them as a precautionary measure. As usual, some people took this fairly isolated story far out of proportion, but wearers of the bracelet should not be concerned about being revived in an emergency. The bracelet is a fundraiser for cancer research, nothing more.

Your spanish teacher is wrong. The bracelets are from Lance Armstrong. They are for cancer, so you should tell that to your teacher and wear yours! :)

The Live Strong bracelets are bracelets in which a portion of the money used to purchase the bracelet is given to the Lance Armstrong Foundation helping cancer research. You spanish teacher was very much mistaken.

Hope this Helps,
Ann

No, that's not true. There's a bracelet that's the same style that is a different color that means that though.

They are simply the same color as the "Donot resessutate" bracelets.

There is no rumor going around so people won't buy these bracelets. The hospitals simply tape over the bracelets if you end up in the hospital. Why would you stop wearing it? Are you going to need to worry about going unconscous any time soon? It's a very good cause, you should continue to wear the bracelet.

It's just that it will be taped over if you end up in the hospital any time soon.
