Question Posted Saturday December 18 2004, 2:44 pm
I'm fifteen years old, and I'm about 5'3. I'm not overweight, but I'm on the verge of it, and it most definitely wouldn't hurt if I shed a few pounds. When I'm home alone or just out with friends, I'm fine as far as resisting bad food goes. The problem is...my mom- and the rest of my family. My mom is ALWAYS buying junk food and tempting me with it. When we go to McDonalds and I say that I just want a bottled water and a salad, she'll order an extra thing of fries because she knows I'll eat it. My question is...How can I resist this with out my family thinking I'm anorexic? They won't understand if I simply explain that I want to lose a few pounds because like I said, I'm not overweight yet. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

My advice to you is.. everything is ok in moderation... and if you feel like you grubbed out on something greasy and not so good for you, hit the gym and do some cardio... running or actually even walking is so good for you. I need to take my own advice, bc i've been slacking on working out lately :) But ya, you sound like ur weight isnt a huge issue, but you'd rather be more 'fit'.. so work out, and explain to ur mom that you want to 'better your body' by eating more healthy and hittin up the gym. ask her if maybe she'd want to go with you... it's always more fun to work out in pairs.. hope i helped :)

ixjacquixi answered Saturday December 18 2004, 5:24 pm: I used to have the same problem. Everyone is born with a certain set point meaning you will continue to gain weight until you have reached your set point. And there is nothing wrong with shedding a few pounds. If you go to McDonalds is good that you eat salad and water but ask you mom politely if she could not order a side of fries because your trying to shed a pound or two. Eating a few fries won't hurt but eating the entire thing will. It's ok if you eat fries but in smaller portions thats what watching what you eat is all about. Trying walking or doing some kind of exercise to shed of pounds and improve body. Continue to work hard and you will see an improvement. Tinkerbelle answered Saturday December 18 2004, 4:47 pm: That's the same thing here, I'm 5'0" and 124 pounds. No, that's not like completely obese, but I should realistically be around 115. My mom ALWAYS buys fattening foods too. You can try to sit down and talk to them, but like you said, it might not work. But you probably don't even need to, since you aren't overweight yet. All you have to do is exercise. Everyone in this world is so caught up in counting carbs and stuff, I'm sick of it. My theory is eat what you like, but only eat when you're actually hungry, and stop when you're full. If they push you to eat more, say NO, I'm full, and they'll stop hopefully. But don't deprive yourself from the foods you love just to lose some pounds. Just exercise, only eat when you're hungry, and you'll be fine! xluvinux answered Saturday December 18 2004, 3:45 pm: Sit your family down and explain to them that you don't want to eat so much unhealthy food. You don't have to add in you're being cautious of gaining weight, just say it's bad gor your health (because it really is.) Drink water instead of pop but make sure to get all your food groups in every day. Exercise regularly and you shouldn't gain any weight. If your mom tries to buy you fries again, refuse. Since you've already explained about it to her, she should respect your decision. =)

xLiLNaTaLiE15 answered Saturday December 18 2004, 3:29 pm: I really don't think that you should worry about it. If you're not overweight yet, you're fine! If your mom keeps buying junk food, just ask her to buy more healthier food, because you want to be healthy. No parent can resist that. It's better for your body anyways! Just don't cut down on meals or food you love. If you feel like you're starting to gain weight, exercise a little bit, but don't cut down on meals. :) Fruits really good for you. Berri answered Saturday December 18 2004, 2:50 pm: Hey, yah, I know the feeling. The key here is self control. When she orders those fries, take two or three of them just to get your fix, and then make yourself refuse to eat anymore. Just think about your goals and what you want to do with your body.
