So I'm doing the South Beach Diet and I cant have carbs for a while. Well I've been on it for 5 days, but yesterday I decided to cheat. Well this morning I woke up and my stomach felt gross. I was about to eat lunch and I looked at the food and wanted to throw up. I really love food but today its grossing me out. Of course, I cant go out with food so I'm forcing myself to eat but I dont know whats wrong! My stomach just gets grossed out when I see/eat food. Is this because yesterday I decided to cheat and have carbs and my body was just getting used to the no-carb deal? I dont know..Its confusing me and yeah. Do you know what could be wrong?
PresleyPizzelanti answered Saturday November 20 2004, 1:14 am: someone asked me about dieting earlier in my advice column, you should read it. south beach and atkins diet programs tear your body down, theyre no good at all. and even IF you do get down to your goal weight, you'll never be able to maintain it, so read what i wrote earlier. oh and once your at your goal weight, just eat healthy, not less. theres a difference. im a (healthy) diet pro [ PresleyPizzelanti's advice column | Ask PresleyPizzelanti A Question ]
UWishUHadMyHemi answered Friday November 19 2004, 8:52 pm: your body hasnt adjusted to the no carb thing yet. thats why south beach is not one of the best diets..it cuts things out to fast. instead of saying no carbs, ever, just try decreasing your intake. like say for the next week, youll only take in maybe 40 carbs, depending on how many you usually take in. then the next week, go down by another 10 carbs and so on and so on until you get to a low carb lifestyle that wont make you sick.
but to really answer your question instead of telling you what to do(hehe, sorry), you cut too many carbs out too fast, and then when you cheated, your body went on carb overload. you hadnt been eating carbs, so your body was storing them. then when you had a lot of carbs, your body went into overdrive and tried to store all the excess, which is what makes you sick. my personal advice would be stop the south beach. its not a very good diet. but thats just me..
Michelley answered Friday November 19 2004, 8:10 pm: Your stomach probably was just getting used to not having carbs..so when it had some it was kinda shocked and freaked out. It'll probably get better, but you really shouldn't go on a NO carb diet...just a LOW carb diet, because you'll be sick if you don't eat carbs because your body needs them..and theres low carb EVEYTHING...salad dressing, milk, cereal, juice, peanut butter...and like every other food..so its not hard to find low carb stuff @ all

mysticpixie05 answered Friday November 19 2004, 7:48 pm: it is probably that your body has just adapted to functioning with out having carbs to rely on that when you ate carbs it had some side affects. it is probably nothing. [ mysticpixie05's advice column | Ask mysticpixie05 A Question ]

Mercy_x_Me answered Friday November 19 2004, 7:02 pm: This sounds a little like an eating disorder to me. Like really, you might not want to admit it, but that's where eating disorders begin. Well, all Im saying is diet carefully, and maybe you were overstuffed, but its better to eat in porportion. This is what I mean by that, when you dont eat your stomach shrinks, so that the next time you eat a normal portion you feel overstuffed and like you ate a lot more than you did. This is why its important to have food normally. Well, good luck, and maybe you should talk to a friend/parents about this :-) [ Mercy_x_Me's advice column | Ask Mercy_x_Me A Question ]
xXxpinky615xXx answered Friday November 19 2004, 6:49 pm: The drastic change in diet causes to upset your stomach. Going 5 days without eating carbs and then eating them one day will get you sick. And it's exactly what you said. You're body is getting used to not having carbs but when you out of no where have carbs, it makes you feel sick. It doesn't seem like a long time to go without eating carbs but you can go a couple days without eating someting and then when you eat it again, you'll get sick in some way. Don't worry about it. Peptobismol, heating pad, something light to eat with no carbs and water, 2 tylenol and a TV remote and you'll be good to go. You'll be fine. Hope this helped. Mandee answered Friday November 19 2004, 6:47 pm: I'm not really advanced on this type of thing, but here are some of my thoughts: It's likely that you have the right idea about your body. Because you were going without carbs for a while your stomach adapted to that and you're confusing it by putting back these carbs. If you start ending your carbs and continue doing that for a period of time, you will become used to doing that. But when you get off the diet your body has no way of responding sensibly because you are switching on and off of something. It is best to stay in one eating habit. Think of it like this: You get confused if you learn something from what you've been taught, but suddenly there is a new way that someone wants you to understand. Your body is the same way. You are mixing up the types of foods you are eating which is causing you to have those gross feelings when you see or eat food. That is what I believe is the reason to why that happened. Anyways, good luck!
