I think that if you like the guy you should go right ahead and ask him. But before you do you should make sure that it isn't going out with someone first and if not then ask him. If you wait too long to ask him he could ended up going out with someone else and you will regret it you will never know when you will have another chance.

Oh wow I have been thinking about this question for so long! And I totally think that that is a load of crap. I mean honestly if you like a guy well enough and he likes you back. Well, that depends on who you ask. It varies from person to person. Some girls think it is weird to ask out guy out merely because they are old-fashioned and not comfortable with something that's fairly new. Often times, guy like a girl who is brave and asks them out. They likenot always being the one who have to take the initiative and they know you are interested right away. If you are comfortable and confident, there's nothing wrong with it. Down with the old, in with the new..ask a boy out! :)
