armpits need help

Question Posted Wednesday October 27 2004, 4:15 pm

18/f here-does anyone know a really good deoderant to use? Not for smell, but to greatly reduce sweating? I have to change my shirts all day because they keep getting wet, it's gross and embarassing. And if no one has found one off the shelf, is a prescription one expensive, do you have to see a doctor (no insurance) or just ask a pharmacist? Deoderants I've tried are secret platinum soft solid, and adidas smart technology. And botox would be too expensive (it's supposed to stop excessive sweating). thanks guys.

Use Certain-Dry .. it works like a charm. You might be able to get it at the drugstore, if you cant, I know they have it at drugstore.com. Hope I helped =) <3Steph

Hm... I use Lady Mitchum (it's antibacterial yay!) You might want to talk to a doctor if it's really horrible, but you might want to try someone with baking soda in it.

it soundz like u already know what i've said below... but they only thing u really can do is that... apply for medical insurance... there is insurance for low income families... talk to ur counselor about it...

if ur a girl... try secret platinum... if that doesnt work...you may have hyper hydrosis which is caused by genetics... when you have this condition ur palms, da soles of ur feet and ur under arms are constantly dripping wet... This Happens when ur sweat controlling nerves work more than they are supposed... And when u sweat like this theres nothing deodarant or antiperspirants can do... What you can do is go to the Dermatologist and they can inject botox in in ur underarms... that'll fix ur problem... however this only lasts for a year... so its needs to be done every year... Another choice u have is a Sympathectomy... This is a surgical procedure where the surgeons will cut the nerves in ur under arms so they dont send the messege to your sweat glands to work more than they should... this procedure has sum short term side effects which are costly so talk to a doctor and find out whats best for you... what u can do in the meantime is use underarm pads which can be sewn into ur clothes... u can find them at fabric stores...

Well I use Sure anti-perspirent which is quite good and stops most of the sweat. I've heard another good one is Mitchum-it's very strong. If things don't stop then maybe you should check it out with a doctor or ask at a pharmacy.

I understand what you're goin through... I have the same problem. I use this antipersprant called Certain Dri... yep it's spelled just like that. It's in this small little tube thing and it's a roll on and a liquid. It works great, you put it on at night and a little in the morning with a little bit of regualr deoderant. I use secret or dove. Try that for about a week and see how it works. Certain Dri is expenisive though but it's worth it... a small bottle is about 7-10 dollars but it works great. Hope this helped.

MFS answered Wednesday October 27 2004, 4:26 pm:
Your body sweats because it is hot. Sweating is a good thing. Not sweating can be very bad. And if you stop your pits from sweating, your body will just start sweating more from someplace else.

For good measure, I'll point out that deodorant is not the same as an antipersperant. Botox reducing sweating seems silly, as it just paralyzes muscles.

You might just have to consider the clothing you wear, and apply anti-persperant more than once a day. Also analyze your diet - your metabolism effects rather directly how you sweat.
