I think this is like any other situation - the more you try to avoid thinking about it, the more it'll crop up in your thoughts. So think about it. Give yourself time to grieve.

Call your friend, ask how he/she is doing, offer your support. Write them out a nice card every week.

By allowing yourself to experience what you are feeling, it'll help you move on. You can also write in journals, talk to someone about it, paint pictures, take pictures, anything that expresses your emotions.

Good luck.

Recently my friend recovered from cancer. While she was getting treatments she was really depressed. My friends and I contacted Make-a-wish foundation. If you know an actor or actress or any type of star your friend likes contact and organization like that. She told us that whenever things got bad she thought about us and what we did for her and she got stronger. In a way we saved her life. Hope I helped! xoxo

Sadly.. you wont really be able to fully get this off your mind.. you've been through a lot. What I would do is pray for your friend and like someone else said go to a hospital and talk to other cancer patients..play with the kids..make their day..one of the best ways to make yourselffeel better is to make someone else feel better..maybe you and your friend should go out one day and do everything they wanna do just have great one on one time! Show them that you really care n youll be there till the end! Hope you feel tons better!:)

its not so much that you need to take your mind off of it, because when and if he/she does die you'll feel gulity for not thinking about it.

what you should do is try your damndest to do everything in your power to fight cancer. ya i know that sounds stupid, but i just recently found out that my mom had breast cancer, and now i'm participating in the breast cancer walk in my communitee, and i feel good about it. try to participate in as many cancer fundraisers as possible, so that you feel good about yourself. it will also help take your mind off of your friend who died, because you're working hard to stop this eppidemic.
