Well I have my cartilidge pierced, but I got it done professionally. I think that is the best way to do it. It will most likely get infected and hurt really bad if you do it by yourself. You have to use the correct tools and cleaning supplies. When I got mine pierced, I got it pierced with a stud (hoops are more expensive) at Piercing Pagoda in the mall. I don't know if they have one near you, but that's where I have always got mine pierced and they've worked out great. Well anyway, at Piercing Pagoda, I only had to pay for the earring, not for the piercing. The earring was $30. That was like the most expensive one there. So it's really not that expensive. I hope I helped you some..Good luck :D If you need anything else, just ask me.
MoonFisher answered Friday October 1 2004, 1:25 am: Not a good idea, but you also don't want to go somewhere where they will use a gun. Imagine punching a hole in hard rubber. The rubber would tear and stick out in chunks all around the hole, right? That's what happens to your cartilidge when you use a piercing gun. I recommend going to a real tattoo/piercing shop and having it done by hand with a needle by a professional, which would runyou about $40. If you are determined to go it cheap, please sterilize the needle well. Heat it, then completely submerge it in rubbing alcohol OR boil it for 10 minutes. My piercer, Brenda, is just awesome and she says that she would rather see kids do it themselves than let Walmart use a piercing gun on them because of the tissue damage. After piercing it and getting the jewelry in, gently massage the tissue around it for about 5-10 second with clean hands to help the tissues get back into place. Treat it with saline solution or water with sea-salt. Do not use harsh chemicals. Soak it in warm sea salt or saline at least twice a day by soaking a paper towel in the warm solution and wrapping it around the piercing and leaving it there for several minutes. You are best off using a captured-bead hoop as it is easiest to clean. Good luck. [ MoonFisher's advice column | Ask MoonFisher A Question ]

surfsup69 answered Thursday September 30 2004, 4:46 pm: ok.. well i have pierced every hole "almost" in my body.... i have done 3 cartilage and a belly button piercing and two second holes... to be very safe.. what you want to do is take a lighter and burn the needle.. then take rubbing alcohol and wpe off the burnt colored part... if it doesnt come off make sure it is clean... then boil it for about 5 minutes then wip it again with rubbing alcohol and (if you want to make your ear numb put ice on it for at least 10 minutes) but i didnt... i just got up the nerve and counted to three and starting putting it thru... fast or slow either way... but i usually did it when i was upset or mad or whatever.. but make sure you clean the needle... and it will hurt a little bit.. so make sure you keep your hair AWAY from the piercing and keep it clean.. dont take it out for at least 2 weeks! BlackAngel answered Thursday September 30 2004, 3:26 pm: Don't do it on your own. I know people who have and have gotten the needle stuck...and had to have it surgerically removed. I don't think you REALLY wanna do that...Professional places have pretty variying price ranges last I checked, and it might depend on what exactly you want to get pierced. If you're REALLY intent on doing it on your own (I discourage it) then do some research on it first. [ BlackAngel's advice column | Ask BlackAngel A Question ]
EMiLYELiZABETH answered Thursday September 30 2004, 11:53 am: Do not do it yourself!!! Like the others have said, Cartlidge is very tender and has tons of veins in it. If you hit a nerve, you could paralize your face, ouch!!
I'd reccomend going to the tattoo/piercing place in your area, not even the mall because they generally don't get a lot of training. Hope this helps and happy piercing!! [ EMiLYELiZABETH's advice column | Ask EMiLYELiZABETH A Question ]
vickiooos answered Wednesday September 29 2004, 11:03 pm: err haha i tried doing that to my friend when i was in 5th grade and she was in 6th.. didnt really turn out well.. we did the dumbest method ever.. we numbed out her cartilege with ice to ease the pain and used an UNSTERILIZED needle..
i don't think that you should do it yourself. alot of teens today do but it's not good for the skin. I'd have it professionally done.. and probably i be you can find a pretty cheap store that ranges from 10-20 bucks.. kinda expensive but uh well. dramaqueenbabeiwb answered Wednesday September 29 2004, 10:29 pm: Do NOT pierce it on you own. It is really dangerous. The salon costs about 30 to 40 bucks. You don't have clean equipment, cleaner stuff, or the knowledge on how to do it. If you get it pirced, PROFESSIONALY remember to turn them in circles daily and clean them twice a day. Good luck! Notso answered Wednesday September 29 2004, 10:11 pm: I don't think you should do it yourself because I got mine done professionally (twice), and the first time it got infected and had to be taken out.
It's free, all you pay for is your earring (well at least where I went) but they usually make you get a gold earring so it can be about $30 and up. It's worth it though, because they give you tips on cleaning, and if it does get infected, you can usually get a refund (I was able to). [ Notso's advice column | Ask Notso A Question ]
