I LOVE basketball, it's almost like my life. I love playing, even though I'm not that good. My new school started practices today, and they are making the cut next week. So far we have 15 girls, but we can only have 18. School starts next week which will mean more competition. I'm really nervous, because I'm not horrible but when scrimmaging/playing in a game, i get really nervous and I lose my head. I mess everything up. I really want to make this team. Does anyone have advice to help me get better and focus? THX
Rei answered Tuesday August 31 2004, 11:03 am: do a little card with words saying "i MUST make into basketball!" the 'MUST' must be in bold and capitals, try look at it everyday when u wake up. it helps motivate ya a little to work towards ur dream of getting into basketball.
reason for putting 'MUST' instead of WILL TRY or CAN: the moment ur brain reads something that equals with compulsory(must is a MUST!), it naturally gives u the "strength" to fight for that basketball position. good luck and YOU CAN DO IT!! *cheers* -Rei [ Rei's advice column | Ask Rei A Question ]
UnluckyWishes answered Tuesday August 31 2004, 10:18 am: If you have a basketball net in your driveway practice a whole bunch of drills.I made my schools team last year and i went to a camp this summer that showef me drills i should do before i try-out and basically just to help me alot.Take a basketball and you know how people circle it around thier waist without it touching thier body well try to run whiling doing that.I knwo it sounds stupid but it helps alot.Even just simple things jump shots, lay-ups, reverse lay-ups,foul shots. Then maybe ask a sibling ,parents or friend or something to help you practice passes, guarding, blocking out.I know it sounds really dumb and simple but when you hjave everythnig perfect adn put it all together thats al you need to know so when your in a scrimmage just remember its only simple things.hope i helped. MisSoccer19 answered Monday August 30 2004, 11:04 pm: tell your coach that ur nervous and that u feel like it might effect ur game....it might actually take some of the nervousness down a little, because u know he knows that....u gotta just relax, and play YOUR game...also, try to make a 'ritual' before u play every game, something that kinda takes ur mind off of it (IE-usher has stage fright so before every performance he puts 10 bags of M&M's on a table and seperates them into colors to take his mind off of it) just do something to help you to relax, and clear your mind so that if anythings bothering you, you can just forget about it and play!! hope i helped and GOOD LUCK at ur tryouts!
