De-stress?

Question Posted Sunday August 15 2004, 11:52 pm

How do you de-stress?? I have been having the worst stressful days and I have been having horrible headaches as a result. I need to destress.

It might help trying to find out when things get stressed out for you. If you have trouble with this, just remeber life is good. Sure, problems do occur but if you make what you can out of life, it is good. There is so much to be happy about. Positive attitudes seem to help me with stress. Another thing you might try is drinking lots of water, getting lots of sleep, and treating yourself to plenty of free-time to do whatever you want. Be sure it is something you enjoy and that will help you relax. Excercise, believe it or not might help as well especially yoga or something focused on smooth and easy breathing. If all else fails try a movie night with chocalate and one of your most understanding friends. That usually helps me. Hope everything turns out really well for you. If you want more tips, you can always ask me for some more advice. And remeber this: you can always change the effect of a stressful situation by turning into something you can laugh about- taking a positive approach might also help you solve problems to prevent whatever may be causing stress-outs. :) Warm tea also does the trick. Hope this will help you.

It sounds corny, but you can try one of those relaxation tapes. Just go in your room + turn the lights off and lay on your bed + listen to it, they can really help =) Try aromatherapy candles // bead things // whatever, they're supposed to help.

Some other ideas:

- get a massage
- spend a day at the spa
- go for a run // walk [[ whatever you prefer ]]
- play with a pet
- watch some movies
- take a break + just hang out with friends

Here are many ways to destress...
IF YOU HAVE 10 MINUTES:

Take a walk around the block. Focus all your attention on little details , like the flowers. It'll help you forget your worries. Plus, the fresh air and scenery will give you a new perspective.

Another way is to dab a fragrance like vanilla or lavender on your kneck, becasue they're calming scents. Then, breathe deeply 10 times. Inhale through your nose for 2 counts and exhale for 4. Conscious breathing turns your thoughts inward, so you'll become more in tune with your body or mind.

Dance where no one's watching. Turn on your favourite CD and go nuts! This releases tons of energy. :-)

IF YOU HAVE A HALF HOUR:

Draw a picture that expresses how you're feeling right now. You may not be able to describe your emotions with words, but using colours, shapes, textures, and images can help you figure them out.

3 steps...first, take 5 minutes for complete silence. Don't talk or move. Then, take 10 minutes to examine your life. Ask yourself "What's going right? What can I improve upon? How will I change? Then, take 10 or 15 minutes to write in a journal, to get things off your chest. Putting thoughts oon paper gets them out of your head.

Give yourself a makeover or facial (If you're a girl of course! lol!) This will make your whole body relax.

IF YOU HAVE A HALF DAY:
Clean out your closet and get rid of all the clutter that's making you crazy! Throw everything on your bed, then put only the clothes that you've worn in the last year back in the closet. Give everything else away.

Go to a movie by yourself. See whatever you want, and sit wherever you want! Laugh, cry, and eat popcorn. This will make you feel brave and show you how it can be to do things on your own.

Cook a meal or dessert for your family. This will focus your energy on something fun. (Unless you hate cooking, then don't do this)

IF YOU HAVE ALL DAY:
All day, do EXACTLY what you want to do WHEN YOU WANT TO DO IT. Let your body tell you when to get out of bed, eat, take a nap, run, skip, sit, read, whatever!

You could always try a nice guided yoga workout. I like to lay in a dark room and listen to either white noise or soft music with something cool on my eyes. My fiance plays video games to de-stress. The more stressed he is, the more violent the game. He also likes to go out on his back porch and scream, but that's just when he's really stressed.

Hey hun. Think about all the things in your life that make you stressed out, and take yourself away from them all for awhile. If its something like school then maybe its not so easy and the answer is just to not over load yourself so much. If its friends, then the best thing to do is talk to them. Same with your better half or parents. I know from experience that being stressed out isnt fun. and It can bring people into a horrible place, but the most important thing to know is you need to do the things that make you happy. Hope I helped. At least a little.

The best ways to destress? Well what makes these things good is that they help keep your mind off of things that happenned...so keep that in mind. Here are ideas:
1) Take a long walk (& if you have a dog walk it!)
2) Go swimming and relax in the sun
3) Watch a movie (happy romance movies will make you feel happier, ex: The Wedding Planner)
4) Take a warm bath with candles, and soft music.

*Any of these things ought to do it. Need any more advice, then send your probs to my inbox!
