im 13 next week, and i thought that to be a great musician and get a contract you had to be at least like 16; but then i saw this thing about how JoJo and britney spears (JoJo now, britney spears like 6 years ago) both were 13 when they made their first music video...
i'm really into rock, and i'm trying <really] hard to find some good electric guitar, bass, and drum players, to make a band; and i <really] want to be able to get a recording contract, or something like that to publicize... if anyone has any advice on either, please let me know!

Practice as much as you possibly can. If you're looking for a bad, advertise in music stores (Daddy's Junky Music, Guitar Center, etc.). If you're a singer, say that you are a singer in search of a bassist, guitarist, and drummer in your area and give your phone number (if that weirds you out, give an e-mail address). You could also post flyers in your library or in other public places. Look for kids in your school who are in the school band or who play outside of school and ask if they'd be interested. Encourage your friends who "always wanted to try an instrument" to go for it, and take lessons. Good luck! [ corporate_casual's advice column | Ask corporate_casual A Question ]

barthez4 answered Friday August 13 2004, 12:05 am: Well first whatever instrument or thing you do, practice at it like crazy. Singing included. Then from there you just have to do a thing called NETWORKING. Its something you'll need to be able to do your whole life, so start it young. Basically go to places where there's going to be music (example...a local venue, or a local recording studio) and just talk to anyone and everyone you can. Get your name out there, get your talents out there, and make sure people know that you want to make a band. I've found that often times the best bands are the bands who are together (exception: Oasis) so if you've got friends who are good at instruments, ask them. Or even see if your friends are interested in learning an instrument and starting a band. I know that the bassist from Thrice and the bassist from All American Rejects had both never played the bass once when the band started, but their friends got them to play. The bassist from Thrice is actually very good too.
Once you're in a band, keep networking. Vincent's uncles nephew's father's sister's aunt's son-in-law's landlord could very well be someone who could get you into a recording studio to cut a demo. Keep branching out until you know every person involved in music within a 30 mile radius (alright i exadgerate but its good to know more people). Play shows and advertise your band on other band's websites and tell your friends to tell their friends and just get your band's name out to anyone you can.
However, don't get ahead of yourself or ahead of your band. The most important thing about the band is the music, not the record contract or Jimmy's new 2000 dollar guitar. It's always about the music man, and the industry is hard to get into.

liddylflirtx3 answered Thursday August 12 2004, 10:14 am: do you have an agent? if not, talk to your parents about getting you an agent (there's probably a local talent agency in your town) your agent is the one who will give your demo tape to record companies and sign you up for photo shoots off the bat! good luck with this =) [ liddylflirtx3's advice column | Ask liddylflirtx3 A Question ]

Dont_Fall_Twice answered Wednesday August 11 2004, 9:14 pm: Well I say form a band! Thats the first thing... Advertise and meet the band member and be sure they have the same goals. As a musician, I can tell you it takes more then a dream to accomplish your musical goals. You have to have passion and amibtion. Meaning... practice, practise practise. So maybe post flyers at school or in the newspaper in order to form a band. Then get some songs going, Maybe play little gigs in the neighbor hood, or your school, or talent shows... Get your name out there... Umm.. If you really want to be a young famous artist you have to love the music, and be really awesome... So I would get started! If you need anything drop one in my inbox :) -Britty- [ Dont_Fall_Twice's advice column | Ask Dont_Fall_Twice A Question ]
MapleAdvice11 answered Wednesday August 11 2004, 7:23 pm: If you are sataioned in California go to Cabands.com, find the mesage board icon at the top of the page and go to the musicians wanted area. All are musicians looking for a band, but they are all in California. Also look for musicians in your school, there are alot, or put out flyers at your school. I'm sure people will respond.
