soccer is coming up soon.... i need to get in shape... really bad. whenever i run now i feel i get out of breath a lot easier. and i think my leg muscles decreased, i lost a lot of weight. what can i do do get in shape, and increase my muscles (mainly leg muscles.. although arm muscles would help for my throw-ins)?

first off, make sure that you're NOT just working on your legs for soccer, because if you want to be an impact player, you need to be strong on the ball and be able to play a physical game as well as a game of skill. its not that skinny players don't make an impact in the game, but its been seen so many times where the little guys who have a lot of foot skills and speed are marked out of the game by physical players.

for running, in order to get back in shape (and you should be setting a goal to be in better shape than you were last year) you should run 2 days, rest one day, run 2, rest one, run 2, rest one and so on. run through the soreness and tiredness, because you're gonna have to do it in practices and games. if your legs are sore, then lay on your back with your legs propped up in a 90 degree angle against a wall for about 25-30 minutes before you go to sleep. when you wake up, you won't be as sore in your legs.

if you really want to get in good shape, go to a place with multiple flights of stairs, and just do sprints on the stairs from bottom to top for half an hour each day. incredibly tiring, but the results are amazing.

Alright well this evening I did 20 toyota jumps, 20 front to back, 20 side to side, 20 scissors, 10 moutntain climbers, 15 curl ups, 30 crunches, 15 obliques on each side, jogged for a WHOLE 12 minutes and 15 seconds straight, and then I stretched my legs out since I jogged for a while. I got really sweaty doin all this and all that good stuff and I was just wondering how many calories did I burn by doing that short exercise session?!

probably not too many calories were burned doing the majority of the stuff except for jogging. the sweating doesn't really tell how many calories either, it just means that you were well hydrated before exercising (which is a good thing) and that your metabolic systems are functioning right. it sounds like a pretty good workout, but i'd say to do the jumps (toyota, front back, side......) in a timed fashion rather than counting each jump. try to go for 2 minutes for each activity. the crunches and obliques are better to do in a quantity rather than time, but you might want to double down on increase them a little bit.

and also, you should stretch everything after these workouts, not just your legs. this is to avoid being sore, even though you didn't work these parts.

well like all instruments, it'll be hard at first. but if you take lessons, you'll see that you get better at a fast pace, and you start to be able to play songs you know.

the size of a guitar doesn't really matter, but if you have short arms, get one thats not too thick, and vice versa.

I'm a freshman and i think i'm workin myself too hard. I come home exhausted almost everyday and i take a nap. Then when i wake up, it takes me a few hours to do my homework and i'm really tired. I play a sport year-round and i think i might have to give up 1 or 2 of those sports. What should do? Am i working myself too hard?

I had the same thing from freshman-sophomore year. All I can really say is that you shouldn't give up the sports you love unless you really are suffering from them. Sometimes, just doing your HW right away rather than taking a nap can help. Then you can just go to sleep until morning. I've done it a few times, and it works to catch up on sleep.

Okay, I am only 13, 5`1, and I way 133 pounds! Everyone thinks I look normal and I look about 100 pounds. Anyways, i want to lose my stomach fat, how would running for 1/4 a mile everyday day and 4+ minutes of situps get me in 3 weeks?

1/4 of a mile is not that much, i'd say that to see good results, at least a mile a day. this can be done just by running 1/2 a mile and then back to your house. also you shouldn't do situps by time, you have to do it by amount of situps. for someone 13, i'd suggest about 125-150 situps a day. it might seem hard but if you break it down it is pretty easy. just do 5 sets of 25 situps, with like 2 minutes between each set. the reason you don't go by time is that you will have uneven workouts depending on how fast or slow your situps are. also, be sure to get your love handles by doing side crunches where you lay on your side with your knees bent and do a crunch. you should do regular situps one day, then side situps the next (making sure to get both left and right evenly). take one day of rest each week (sunday is a good day because it is easy to remember).

like someone else said, nicknames come from experience. but you can try Sullivan, Sully, or Mike Wyzowski. those are characters from the movie Monsters, Inc. the little girl's nickname is Boo, and Sullivan (Sully) and MW look after her.

I'll start from the back.

Goalkeeper
Fullback (Defenders)
Halfbacks (Midfielders)
Strikers (Forwards)

also, incase you didn't know, when someone says something like "4-4-2" it refers to having 4 fullbacks, 4 halfbacks, and 2 strikers. a "3-5-2" has 3 fullbacks, 5 halfbacks, and 2 strikers. there are many different formations, but the most commonly used formation at the high school and collegiate level is the 4-4-2. many great club teams like Manchester United use this.

Hey! I was wondering if anyone new any "Inspirational" Friendship type songs. The songs I have so far are; Wind Beneath My Wings, I Believe I Can Fly, I Turn To You, Live Like You Were Dying, Ask Me, Coming Out Of The Dark, Hero, Angel, Angels Among Us, Angels In Waiting, I'll Be (By Reba). I know not all of those are Inspirational songs. But if you know any that someone can realate to because of a hard time. Like Ask Me is about sexual abuse, or songs about anxiety or depression post them too! Thanks!

the song Calling All Angels by Train is pretty good. i'm not sure of the title, but the theme song to Dawson's Creek is inspirational.

if you want songs about anxiety or depression, just listen to any poppunk band like simple plan, good charlotte, all american rejects (although i don't dislike them that much), or the starting line (same case as AAR)

i'd just go for kazaa or preferably Kazaa Lite++. you'll find mp3's there, and you can find just about any songs you want.

i need conversation startes to talk to a freshman guy who only plays soccer which ik nothing about and isnt in my classes

well you don't need to talk to him about soccer if you're not interested in it. just ask him how hes doin, how was his summer, did he go anywhere for vacation..... then if he brings up soccer just say like... yeah soccer's pretty cool, but i don't play it or know much about it.

if you see him in the halls (since hes not in class w/ u) just start talkin to him, and then like casually ask if he's got AIM or email address or anything, then keep talking to him through that.

really they all do, but probably the beginning. the great thing about that book is that you see atticus' character more through his actions and his beliefs. if i had the book with me, i'd be more specific than just "the beginning", but you shouldn't just go by physical description because of his good character.

what do they do when you get a sports physical? anything with your privates?

i know for guys it's the same as your regular physical. i always have my physical at my regular doctor and have her sign my forms rather than having the school nurse do it.

hi, does anyone know i good shoe to wear for tennis? i bought some wilson brand tennis shoes and you'd think they would be good but they leave white marks on the courts and when i run fast to get a ball and stop my foot goes foward and my toes get squished and now my two big toenails are killing me from playing 7 hours of tennis today! please help i dont want this to happen again-i have tennis tomorrow! my feet are in so much pain!

when i play tennis (just for fun, not on a team), i just use my regular running shoes. i have adidas ozweego cross-trainers. the outside is part leather, part mesh (the mesh is mainly where your toes are).

i am 13 (almost 14) and a chick. i am like realli tall for my age (5'9") and i look way older than i realli am but i cant help it. and i am also deffinatly not ugly. but alot of guys that are way older than me (16 and up) like constantly hit on me, whistle at me, check me out, flirt wit me, etc.,etc. what can i do to appeal to guys my own age?

all i can really say is that you should try to get to know guys in your grade better. find someone that you like, and try to pursue a relationship with them. even if they don't like you (as a girlfriend) at first, keep getting to know them better and maybe you can win them over.
