For some reason when ever I ask a question, the question never appears under the give advice secttion. This one may not either. Does anyone know why? And could anyone help me with a question I have?
MysticalSwirls answered Wednesday August 4 2004, 11:43 am: Hey! Ok, the questions must be approved my the Level 2 mods. Soo, If your question is something inappropriate like "i like to do ..stuff.. with my dog. Is this normal? or is it more normal to eat fried cheese?" (lol, haha first thing I could think of...) or something containing REALLY sexual things...... then it will be deleted. Thats most likely the problem ... Or if not then it could be a problem thats been asked 100 THOUSAND times soo it was deleted.
MFS answered Wednesday August 4 2004, 11:19 am: Ok, to confirm and clarify what others have said:
Every question asked first goes into a queue - from that, the L2 mods approve or disapprove the questions. I would guess that about 90% of the questions are approved. What I've seen happen is that people get imaptient, and they ask their question 2-5 times. This makes a mess for us. We only want one instance of the question going public, so the duplicates have to be deleted. If two mods are approving things at the same time (and we have no way of knowing), if ModA deletes the first instance of the question, meaning to approve the 2nd, and ModB deletes the 2nd, meaning to approve the first, well... both questions just got deleted...
So, what this says is, PLEASE ONLY ASK QUESTIONS ONE TIME.
Ok... next thing: there are some questions that have been asked over and over and over again, and the answers are going to be the same thing every time. These are now listed in the FAQ as the Common Questions. Generally, we are no longer approving them, becuase, well, 100 other people have already asked the exact same thing. Go look it up.
And furthermore...
There are some questions that are 1) really dumb, 2) obscene, 3) both dumb and obscene, and 4) completely and totally unreadable. These also tend to get the thumbs down...
And trust me, if we didn't moderate the questions like this, every other fucking question would be, "OMG! I AM 15 AN MAI PENIS IS 2 INCHES LONG IS THAT OK??!?!?!?" or "I LIKE TO MASTERBAIT ALL TEH TYME! OMG LOL!@111!1!1!11!" or better yet "ken u tel me good wayz 2 give hed!?!?" And you know what? It gets really old, really fast.
Thus, we moderate so that this site doesn't become a giant cesspool of raving stupidity.
Just remember, the mods are volunteers. We are columnists just like everyone else. We try to give the best advice we can. And along with that, we have been asked to help out running this site to keep things moving along. We don't get paid, we dont' get anything. In fact, we tend to get a lot of insults from people who just don't get it... yet we do it anyway. [ MFS's advice column | Ask MFS A Question ]
jbdreamer answered Wednesday August 4 2004, 10:45 am: All questions must first be approved by a level 2 moderator before being shown publicly. We got a lot of spam and inappropriate comments being posted, so that is why this system was put into place. Please be pacient. We do the best we can at getting the questions approved in a timely matter. [ jbdreamer's advice column | Ask jbdreamer A Question ]
S_C answered Wednesday August 4 2004, 9:12 am: it's because of the screening process
once they stopped screening, if it's a good enuff question, then they post it
at one point they stopped screening to give us level1 moderators a chance to do sumthin, but they got so much junk that they decided to start again, i think
but it's all because of screening, that could take anywhere from a minute to a few days, it all depends on the level 2 moderators and advice_admin [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]
