You should ask your dentist. Ideally, you should be wearing it for the rest of your life. For the first couple of months, it shoudl be on day & night, then only at night, then every other day (that's what my dentist tells me). If you stop wearing it, it's always possible that your teeth will shift and you'll have to get braces again!

I think everyone's different. I never got like, an actual retainer, they just cemented this 'permanant' thing to the back of my teeth, and that was that. The top one broke a couple of years ago, though, and they said it was no big deal + just took the whole thing off. I think it just depends on *your* teeth.

Well, I'm sure that every doctor handles their patients differently but my orthodontist told me I have to wear my retainer for the rest of my life. He said that eventually once I get older I won't have to wear it as much but I have to wear it for the rest of my life. I hope this helps!
