Belly Button Piercing Questions and Permission From Parents?

Question Posted Sunday July 25 2004, 3:16 pm

My 14th birthday is comin up soon and i want to get my belly button pierced for my birthday because i have a nice body and with my belly button pierced, it would look really good. My parents said i couldn't get anymore piercings cuz i already have three piercings on my left and right ears and one more piercing on the top of my left ear. I really want my belly button pierced and i dont know how to convince both of my parents to let me get it done. Can someone please help me out lol? One more thing, if anyone would like to tell me how you get your belly button pierced like how they do it and etc, that would really help so i can show my parents and maybe they would let me get my belly button pierced.

Thanks

Getting your belly button hurts a lot..!!! and you have to take care of it 24/7 you cant have NE ONE touch it.. not even yourself.. and if you do u have to wash your hands before and after!! you have to wear lowwww* pants so rubbing against it doesnt bother it but you can wear regular t-shirts! its nothing* like getting your ears pierced cuz its a lot* more work.. and i guess it is also worth it in the end cuz it does look good =).. sry if this changes your views.. just making you aware of what your goin to get into..

alot of ppl want to get their belly buttons pierced. you should talk to your parents. say stuff like "i will clean it 3+ times a day" and "you can come w/ me",stuff like that. ask them if it could be part of your birthday present. show them that you're responsible and keep a good temper and control yourself...they might say yes! hope i could help! <3 Niki Lyn

when you qo to the piercinq parlor ... then will have you sit in a chair it looks kinda lyk a dentist chair and he will clean your bellybutton then mark it with a little marker. Then they will have you look in a mirror to make sure the spot they marked is qood. Then they have a little metal clamp that pulls that spot on your bellybutton toqether so the needle will qo thru easier and then they stick the needle throuqh take it bak out nd put the bellybutton rinq in. Also alot of people will tell you it hurts but it`s not that bad it just stinqs a little.

well.. most places only do it on 16 years or up, but i'll tell you how i got mine. my 15th birthday was coming up and all i wanted was a bellyring. so i told my mom and she said " hell no". so i thought about it a bit and said: "well you can either take me in a few days, or take me to the hospital to treat an infection for when i do it myself. either way i am getting it." she took me the next day :) plus.. always make sure the place is SUPER sanitary.. like make sure they are certified and stuff.

Well it is up to your parents to decide whether or not to get it done. A lot of kids in my school boil a needle nd do it themselves. But the professional way to do it is they put ice on it then sterilize the needle nd then they poke it in. It can also rly get infected tho so you have to be careful and clean it if it doesnt get infected. I think the best way to convince your parents is tellin them that your rly responsible nd that you would take good care of it but DONT beg them.

Personally, I don't like the way they look. If a girl has a really nice looking stomach, then why go and put a metal ball, wring, etc. through it. They are a huge turn off to me and I think they look kind of trashy. I'm one of the very few guys who don't think they are really hot (about 15% im guessing), but personally, we're the better guys anyways. If you do decide to do it though, it will probably hurt a little, and it might get infected, most that i've seen do at least a little at first.

Ok well when they pierce your belly button all they do is sanitize it with some cleaning solution.. hold the top of your belly button and then use this almost like metal kitchen tongs but much smaller then poke a needle through. Then of course they put in the ring. Some of my friends have gotten it done and they said it didn't hurt! =D i dont know what to tell your parents to convince them...

I know how you feel, piercings can get a bit addictive. My mother always let me get piercings within reason, and my belly button was the first one I got, besides ears. So, I can't help you convince your parents besides telling you how it's done and how you take care of it

First, research the piercers in your area, talk to other's who have had piercings done and see who does a good job and who is cleanest and stuff like that.
They pierce with a needle. I hate to say, that your belly button is a pretty painful spot to get pierced. It also takes a long time to heal, especially because it's close to your paint line and that can irritate it. After they pierce you, if they're a good and respectful piercer then they will let you sit for a while, because if you stand right away you could get light headed and possibly pass out. This almost happened to me when I got two piercings in a row (nipples)
Hopefully, before you even get close to the needle, the piercer will tell you about how to clean your piercing. You'll need a piercing solution, such as "Love my Piercing" There are other's and every piercing place should sell some. They told me to use it three times a day. Also whenever it touches something, or something touches it. Clean your hands before going near it. There is going to be some puss, thats normal, just make sure you get the puss off the ring before you try to turn it, or it will hurt like hell. I usually end up cleaning my piercings at least 5 times a day, basically whenever I think of it, for the first two to four weeks.
With the belly button, you'll most likely be told that it takes six months to heal completely. Don't let that scare you, it doesn't hurt for those six months, it just isn't quite healed up yet.
Tell your parents that getting piercings doesn't make you a punk or anything, if that is something they're worried about. I have seven piercings, three are visible(lips, ears), two are sometimes visible(tounge, belly button), and two are only visible to people I choose to show(nipples). These piercings do not hold me back, I have two jobs, I volunteer at an animal shelter and I do very good in college. The only differnce with my piercings is that I get noticed a lot(your that girl with the cool lip ring)
But, after telling you all this, I have bad news, at least in my state(maine), it's illegal to even step into a tattoo/body piercing salon, if your under 16. Over 16 you have to be accompanied by a parent.
Good luck, research everything, and hopefully you'll be able to get pierced, it's a lot of fun :)

Alright, the way it is done.
I've had my bellybutton pierced in many different places, and have several other piercings on my body, so this is strait from my experience. They pull out the upper skin of your belly button with clamps, and stick a 14g needle (some people use hollow needles [in this case a piece of your skin will come out} and others use solid needles [which take out no skin]) through this skin in a rather quick, forceful downward motion. They then guide the ring or curved barbell through the newly created hole, and put the ball(s) on the end(s) of the jewelry piece.
It is Much different from ear piercings, which are normally done by means of a gun and are far less painful. You may want to look the process up online, and reconsider whether You want this done, before you try talking to your parents about it.
When you do talk to them, you might tell them that you can always take this piercing out and have no permanent scar, which their main concern. You might tell them that if you ever need to remove it for any reason, there will be no trace of evidence that it ever existed. Other than that, yes you are rather young, yes the process is painful and the piercing has the second highest probability for infections of all piercings (second only to genital piercings). Having this done to your body is a huge responsibility, you Must clean it every few hours and make sure it isn’t irritated, and you must obey all instructions given, or it may get infected and could be very dangerous.

AsK_LaNi answered Sunday July 25 2004, 7:05 pm:
~ well the first thing i would do, is to research it on the internet and print off some info, like is it safe, what is the percentage of infection, and how to keep it clean, etc. they're probably worried about stuff like that, so that can help set their minds at ease. also tell them that its really important to you.

one more thing...if they do say no, then do not do it behind their back. they will be super mad, and might lose their trust in you.

thankz for your time, and i hope everything goes well for you!

tell your parents that getting your bely button pierced is no different then getting your ears pierced...it just happnes to be on your stomach...tell them that lots of girls have them and they are just a cool thing to have and they really dont draw that much attention unless your wearing a shirt that shows your tummy! they take a clamp to place around the place where you get it pierced...then sometimes they will make a little mark with a pen just to be sure they hit the right sopt...the they take a hollow banana shaped needle and really fast pierce the skin then they take it out and put the ring it...clean it off and your done!

Look up some information on the internet regarding it. Show your parents and they'll make the decision. Just remember its not something you can undo once it is done.
