Cammie answered Sunday July 4 2004, 5:27 pm: Well...I bet most people just put "Look at the directions/instructions." And they ARE right...because that's all that I did when I was (lol well I might as well tell you!) trying out tampons. So, sure...look at the box...but sometimes pointers from other girls that already know how to use them, and that have some tips might help. :)
1) Just CHILL OUT! Sit down on a toilet, or stand up with your legs open sort of in a squat position. Tampons aren't going to hurt you, they can't go any farther in your system except for your vagina. There are a lotta myths out there...Start out using plastic tampons...like Tampax Pearl, Playtex Gentle Glide, Tampax Compak, or you could use a smooth tapered cardboard tampon...(Playtex Beyond), but because Playtex Beyond and Tampax Pearl are more expensive, I'd stick with Gentle Glide or Tampax Compak. Regular cardboard tampons (I've heard) "hurt" more, or are just harder to put in. I don't really agree, but you might as well just stick with plastic ones.
2) It's easy to say "Put it in your vagina at a 45 degree angle." BUUT, (When I got mine in 5th grade...) I wondered which way is the angle? Pointing upward or downward? Well...I found out after a lot of practicing of putting it in it's upward. (Just incase you didn't know. ;) ) You might need to search around with your fingers to know exactly where the tampon's going. Once you find the whole, you'll KNOW it's your vagina. Then just slide that tampon in! ;)
3) Now, most girls say it hurts when they put it in. Well, probably because they push it in so slow! I mean, if you're sitting down with a tampon half pushed in your vagina not all the way, it's going to hurt. But once you get the tampon up in there, it shouldn't hurt...and you shouldn't be able to feel anything except the string hanging down. So, instead of putting myself through "pain" with going slow with putting the tampon in, I just shoved (I know that sounds gross...but I really did just push it hard up there.) it right in.
Well...I really hope I helped! Pleease rate me. Good luck! ;)
