the violin I want to learn to play the violin. I own one already, two in fact. I don't have money for lessons and they aren't offered for free at school but I really want to learn. I've tried teaching myself, but in the past it hasn't worked. I've always given up without that initial drive to learn that comes with lessons. It's like I need someone forcing me to do it. My parents have never really been supportive of me learning any instrument and it's unfair that they were both given opportunities in school to play and I haven't. I want to play so badly that I cry myself to bed at night over it. But I have no way to learn.

Have you thought about buying a teach-yourself book? Most storys carry books that help you teach yourself by showing you the basics. Some even come with a DVD or cd if your a visual or audio learner. You can get most of them for pretty cheap and if you get a good one (and practice) you can learn in no time. Good luck! Em'lee ]
do u have NE friends that know someone who plays violin? U should sit down and talk to your parents and tell them that u REALLY wanna play the violin but u can't cuz u don't know how...they should be supportive no matter what u do... i hope this helped...rate me!!!

Do some research around the area where you are living at, I'm sure someone out there would be willing to give you a few lessons for free. Or you can talk to someone you know in orchestra, and ask them to show you a few things on the violin. I hope this helps you a little bit :) ]
if you have two violins, you can try selling one. I played violin for a while, and the store would buy back the violins when you were done with them if they were in good condition. If you can't do that, try placing an add in the paper. If you raise some money, your parents might chip in the rest, and once they see that you are serious, they might help pay. ]
I play violin!! really, it's easy.. do you have any friends that play violin or do u have any friends who HAVE friends who play violin? ask them if they can give u lessons, if not.. try and ask ur parents for money if ur REALLY dedicated to it. Believe me, if you are dedicated, the money u spend for the lessons? it will ALL PAY OFF in the end!! ]
You definitely need to learn. Have you tried to earn money at all? If you're over 11 and there are small children (under your age) in the area, you can babysit (aka kidsit if the kids are insulted by babysit). yeah, if you're a guy (and sorry, but I don't know), then it may be frowned upon a bit, but there shouldnt' be any problem. I do reccomend starting by sitting for relatives if possible, starting off like that can give you a starting point to show people you're trustworthy.
If you're over 15, you can get a part time job with certain restrictions.
Even trying very hard to get some kind of job can convince your parents that you're mature enough and determined enough to learn that they may give in and agree to it, knowing that you're not going to start (with them paying!) and then just drop it for something else.
from your question, it looks like you REALLY want to play the violin, but maybe your parents want some proof that you'll work hard at it. ]
for a while I was going to have a summer job and all the money was going to go towards a summer of lessons (basically all I could afford) but then I got a lovely little rejection paper in the mail which is fucking ridiculous because I worked for them last year.
I do have friends who play the violin. However, one is a junior lifegaurd during the summer and plays in three orchestras (so he's constantly rehearsing) during the year as well as many other burdons and already has no free time. The other started last year and is 12.
I want to play because I want to play with others. Not by myself. I don't want to fucking teach myself. There's not enough peace in this house to fucking teach myself. If it's not the constant television it's my father constantly making noises. THERE IS NO SILENCE EVER. ]
