Allright, I have recently started taking ADDERALL(ADD drug), which goes against all my beliefs, but this way I can stay at my current school which I love. I have an agreement with my parents if I take it I can stay at my current school. But, today after it started kicking in I heard voices. It started in geography, we were talking about Sharon the butcher of Israel. Someone in my head, who was me but not started telling me about how eyes are made of glass and Sharon took out his victims eyes and put them on a wall. It chanted, "Wall of eyes" until I screamed so loud in my head I was suprised no one heard me. It never shut up, unless I was talking to someone, but once I stopped it started. It's hard to explain, it was like I was saying it to myself, but it wasn't me. It's worn off by now, but I think it is making me insane. I don't want to stop taking it, but it is making me completely diffrent. Should I tell my parents? Should I stop taking it? my grades are better. Is it worth it?

What good are grades when you are in a mental institution, come on? What are you gonna tell the guy who think hes Napolean that he already doesn't know? Seriously, what if there are some long term effects that you don't know about, this is very dangerous, and shouldn't be taken lightly. You could always try another medication. Did they tell you the side effects of this drug? Was this mentioned on the label, "cause if you aske me, this sounds too odd to ignore.

faithsrevenge answered Saturday June 12 2004, 3:53 am: Stop taking it and tell your treating doctor that you are having severe side effects. I don't think it is right of your parents to have this ultimatum over your head. ALL mental health drugs can be very touchy. In fact, no one honestly knows how they work (I am a psych major so I am studying these things). If you feel the need to be on a drug to contain the ADD, try something else, it may take several different medications to find the right one.
I wish you the best with this. Keep in mind when you turn 18 you can legally refuse any treatment of any kind... Unfortunately, until then, your parents have the say. [ faithsrevenge's advice column | Ask faithsrevenge A Question ]
OneMan answered Tuesday May 4 2004, 1:28 pm: Adderall, a cocktail mixture of four different amphetamine salts, was first developed about 20 years ago and marketed under the name Obetrol for weight loss and diet control. In 1996 the FDA approved Adderall for unrestricted use for treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder and Adderall is quickly becoming a physician favorite for the treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder in children. Although the side effects usually associated with it are to be expected, in rare cases, hallucinations have been experienced. I would STRONGLY reccomend that you advise your treating physician about this as SOON as possible! [ OneMan's advice column | Ask OneMan A Question ]
Kiki714 answered Sunday April 25 2004, 3:47 pm: Have you told your psychaiatrist about the voices? Id suggest maybe an antipsychotic instead o the adderall or maybe along with it. They do work. My friend is on them. She heard voices too and she doesnt anymore. [ Kiki714's advice column | Ask Kiki714 A Question ]
LilMia811 answered Thursday April 22 2004, 1:32 am: STOP TAKING THAT STUFF NOW! Abusing drugs can cause permanent brain damage or death. And your parents should not be encouraging you to take that stuff, they should be encouraging you to go to bed earlier and get some rest. [ LilMia811's advice column | Ask LilMia811 A Question ]
notnormal answered Thursday April 22 2004, 12:26 am: Adderall looks like a very touchy drug. Here is a website about <a href="[Link](Mouse over link to see full location); "Mental disturbance" is one of the possible side effects listed.
Definitely tell your doctor and parents. Sometimes drugs can backfire and make you worse. This sounds like one of those times. Maybe the doctor can give you something different or a combination that works better without side effects. [ notnormal's advice column | Ask notnormal A Question ]
Nevaeh answered Wednesday April 21 2004, 10:38 am: After reading everything you wrote I looked up the side effects to Adderall, they range from headaches to diziness.... What bothered me off of this website, as far as concerning you was at the bottom of the website page, it says if you experience any of the following you need to STOP taking this medication, and they are as follows:
** An allergic recation (difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tounge or face)
*** An Irregular heartbeat, overly high blood pressure
**** HALLUCINATIONS, ABNORMAL BEHAVIOR or CONFUSION
this drug (stated in the website) is also so addicting that if you have been taking it for more than several weeks that you have to gradually stop taking it instead of just stopping it because your body grows such a dependecy on the drug. You can learn more at:

I hope this helped and you most definatly need to talk to your parents about this immediately. [ Nevaeh's advice column | Ask Nevaeh A Question ]
Moggie answered Wednesday April 21 2004, 8:38 am: It is quite obvious that this drug does not suit you at all and you should make it a matter of Urgency to tell your parents what it has caused to your stability.
I am quite sure that your parents will listen and seek further advice on your behalf because there must be alternative drugs which will allay your complaint without the effects which you have experienced [ Moggie's advice column | Ask Moggie A Question ]
evilgogeta answered Wednesday April 21 2004, 2:53 am: Tell someone. Hearing voices isn't good. If you think it is the drug ask your psychiatrist for another drug. All these people who want you taking adderall want what's best for you, the definitely won't want you to develop schitsophrenia. [ evilgogeta's advice column | Ask evilgogeta A Question ]
