Here-To-Help answered Friday March 5 2004, 7:01 pm: I LOVE writing poetry. I entered a poetry contest and my poem was good enough to be published in a book called "Patterns of Life." My poem was called "Always with me".
In school I just yesterday entered a poetry contest for the peopl ein my school and the winner gets their poem published in a book. One of the people who chooses whose poems go into the book (who was my English teacher last year) came up to me and said my poem was beautiful. (so I think maybe hopefully I have a great chance at winning).
To write great poetry with descriptions and details in it, it helps to have a good vocabulary. I write poems that rhyme sometimes, and other times I write free verse (which means you don't rhyme and you just write what you feel).
If I were you I wouldn't send your poems onto this site. There are a lot of people who will see this and I know you want advice but someone may see it, like it, and steal the idea. But then again I'm a caution freak like that. I would only tell people who you trust on advicenators.
nicegirl90247 answered Saturday February 28 2004, 12:41 pm: A fellow poet! I haven't written in a while, but I used to write all the time growing up. I would be glad to help you. I've had some of mine published in those anthology books they advertise in magazines for the "National Library of Poetry". Anybody else have theirs in there? I had one of them. The title is "Autum Leaves" I think. I gave it to my mom. It's no big deal, really because there are thousands of poems in there, and it would take forever to read them all, and the only people that see it are the ones who buy the book, but that's still a lot of people. Well, anyways, I don't like to brag. I think I can help you. I can share some of my poems with you, if you promise not to steal them. Email me at nicegirl90247@yahoo.com That goes for all you poets out there. But please, no nasty poems. [ nicegirl90247's advice column | Ask nicegirl90247 A Question ]

If you really want a good poem and you aren't so great with them, start in prose, writing exactly what you feel. Then twist words around, make 'em rhyme, and sometimes for fun make it so only you understand what the poem means. I love it when people think I meant something different. Anyways, I'll need to read your poems to help. I'd send you some of mine... but I don't have your e-mail. [ Logic-Man's advice column | Ask Logic-Man A Question ]
Firefly answered Thursday February 26 2004, 5:02 pm: hah! poetry! that's a form of writing, and i'm good with that.
so, you're writing this about your boyfriend, or your crush, or something? well, first you should probably write down all the things you like about him. don't do the standard 'his eyes are so pretty' either, find some quirky things that you like about him to add in there, like how he talks on the phone or something.
after that, you have free reign. be creative, and remember that poems do not have to rhyme. if you're really good at rhyming, then by all means go ahead. you shouldn't try to force yourself to write something either; the almighty poetry muses do not come on command. when you have an idea, write it down, and when you don't, then that's okay. just don't procrastinate or anything.
also, try reading some poetry for ideas. don't steal off of them, just read them.
don't feel bad if it's not good the first time through, because poetry is amazingly hard to write. good luck and happy writing! [ Firefly's advice column | Ask Firefly A Question ]
